Claude Code just found proof that every app on your phone is listening to your conversations. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat. they're using what you say out loud to build your feed. i have the data to prove it.
i've suspected this for months but last week something happened that made me finally check.
i was on a call with my friend and told him i'm thinking about breaking up with my girlfriend. didn't text it. didn't search it. just said it out loud with my phone on the table. two hours later she opens TikTok next to me and her entire feed is breakups. "signs your relationship is over." "how to heal after a breakup." she looked at me and said "why is TikTok showing me this." i said i don't know. but i did know.
i connected my iPhone to my MacBook and ran Claude Code that same night.
it scanned every app's background microphone activity for the last 90 days. not just the apps that asked for microphone permission. apps that were supposed to only have access to photos or location but were activating the microphone anyway.
what it found:
→ TikTok activated the microphone 347 times while the app was "closed" in the background
→ Instagram → 211 background activations
→ Facebook → 189
→ Snapchat → 94
every activation lasted between 3 and 15 seconds. enough to catch a sentence. every one of them tagged a keyword and cached it locally on the phone with a timestamp.
Claude Code pulled the full keyword cache:
→ "breakup" — tagged 4 hours before her feed changed
→ "moving out" — from a conversation with my mom last Tuesday
→ "wedding venue" — from a call with my sister about her engagement that i never searched once
→ "protein powder" — said it out loud to my roommate, had ads for it within an hour
→ "flight to tokyo" — mentioned it at dinner, saw travel ads the same night
those keywords were sitting in a local cache on my phone organized by app with timestamps. TikTok had the most entries. Instagram was second. every single keyword matched a conversation i had out loud near my phone.
the scariest one was "wedding venue." my sister told me she's getting engaged on a private call. i never searched it. never typed it. within a day my explore page had engagement rings and venue tours.
then Claude Code checked a second phone in the same room. my girlfriend's. same keywords. same timestamps. both phones were picking up the same conversation and tagging it independently.
i asked Claude Code how to shut it down. it mapped every app's microphone access and built a permission audit.
what i did:
→ revoked microphone access from every app that doesn't need it to function
→ disabled background app refresh for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat
→ turned off "Hey Siri" which keeps the microphone in passive listening mode 24/7
→ revoked "nearby interaction" permission which uses ultrasonic audio between devices
Claude Code confirmed all four apps lost background microphone access after the changes. i checked her phone too. same steps. took about 3 minutes per phone.
within 48 hours both our feeds went completely random. generic content. nothing personal. nothing from our conversations. that's when i knew for sure it was real.
the full step by step and the prompt are in the first reply. takes 3 minutes. save it so you don't lose it and send it to anyone who's ever said "my phone is definitely listening to me." it is. now you can prove it and shut it down.

I want to use the current discourse around this tweet for something productive.
I've seen many people join a corpo and then immediately leave because they have a complete misunderstanding of what they're getting into.
I will give a couple of warnings/indication.
[...]
1) you are joining a professional environment, this is now your JOB. You have to understand that such a title comes with certain expectations. You will be asked to behave a certain way, respect a code of conduct, rules, you will have to do "homework" outside of streaming.
Yes you will have managers, staffers and other people to help you. But they aren't your nannies that will do everything for you. You will have meetings which you MUST attend.
[...]
2) You have co-workers now. While I'm sure everyone at Hololive, Phase etc ... Are friendly with one another. Don't forget they are performer, entertainer, again this is a job to them. Some of these relationships may be played up for the cameras.
You can't force people to like you, be your friend, want to hang out with you 24/7. That being said. Both parties are expected to, at the very least encouraged to, have a respectful and friendly demeanor.
You must understand the difference between friends and gen-mates/coworkers.
[...]
3) You are not the main character. While joining an organisation, wether established or new. Offer a unique access to a platform and fans. You cannot ask for the moon on day 1.
There are other people, who also deserve to have opportunities. And even then not everyone will get the same opportunities. While it is always in the company best interest that everyone succeed. And if one member "blows up hard", to try and get others to catch their wave/collab to enable rippling effects.
You have to make your own opportunities by finding your own success and putting in the work. Not everything will be handed to you because you ask for it.
You cannot ask the company to invest thousands of dollars on you without some form of tangible guarantee they will see a return on said investment.
[...]
While there's many other points I could raise. These three are generally the most common one I notice about people that get in then dip immediately after.
I've found myself with many industry professional (CEO, Manager, Staffer) talking about the idea of "would this person belong in a corpo or not"
Sometimes we are surprised with people we deemed "too unstable" turning out to be very professionally capable. Sometimes we are shocked at how unprofessional someone who looked put together could get.
But very often the outcome of most people are rather predictable if you know where to look.
The simplest advice I can give : if you aren't passionate enough about VTubing to make hard sacrifices, to get out of your comfort zone, if you aren't capable of behaving in a professional manner.
This shit is not for you. It's hard. Incredibly rewarding in such a unique way. But it's far from easy.

You don't cancel someone panel 3-4 day before the convention because of poor planing. Not for some pseudo sponsorship that don't exist either.
This is an obvious lack of spine in front of external pressure from a small group of activist that have pushed out numerous artists and creators out of Youmacon for the past year and a half.
Some so with the blessings of a couple of recently changed staff members to the detriment of the entire convention.
In a poor attempt at "avoiding drama" from this group of activist, you have only created a bigger one by kicking the proverbial ants nest.
[...]
Whatever you think of Kirsche, she's been invited at this event everytime, she only refused last year because she got doxxed, harassed and threaten so much she had to move out. There was also that one time someone made a bomb threat against Gamersupps at a convention and law enforcement had to be involved.
They knew who she was. They have zero excuse.
From a brand perspective this is a catastrophy as I have watched some people mention that they have also been bullied out of the convention for various reasons : I don't like them, they don't politically align with me, they said something that offended me, they like this thing that I think is icky content.
And these are the people the convention is choosing to give power to. Petty, childish, immature, entitled and utterly ridiculous man children.
Instead of the people that are their biggest draws, the people they have always invited, their best selling artists etc ...
Being a convention comes with a list of expectations. This last minute cancellation creates more consequences than first visible.
1) it creates uncertainty for creators, if your invitation can be revoked on such a short notice why attend in the first place.
2) it creates uncertainty for attendee, if you've made a bunch of plans specifically because of one content creator and that gets revoked just before the con why should you trust it.
3) it changes how the convention is perceived by potential partners and sponsors. It's not so much the controversy itsefl they'll remember. Than the convention complete fumble of a difficult situation and the choice they've made.
4) it can damage internal morale. Seeing a small group of people "have their way" to the detriment of the reputation, brand image and financial success of the con. That will make some people reconsider their engagement to the convention.
[...]
Obviously you will see a lot of choice words from people around Kirsche circle, some exaggerated because of anger.
But from a business or professional perspective I am mortified by this decision.
Essentially, it doesn't matter who you are. If there's a small group of people loud enough, it doesn't matter how much you've done for the convention or how big and important you are. They will throw you under the bus no matter how inconvenient for them.
This is nothing short of terrifying.
If you are a creator, artist, or cosplayer going at Youmacon. I want to make sure you understand that you are not in a safe, proper and professional environment.
If you ever do something that this small group of people find displeasing, if you ever share your affection or passion for something they find immoral.
Your head will be next on the proverbial chopping block.
I am not a fear merchant. I'm the annoying cynic that cry when other people get hurt. If this shit doesn't get meaningfully adress. More people will be hurt.
"Victory" only emboldens activists of this sort to go after more and more target.

In today's VTuber drama video, we have the ongoing story of the Youmacon Convention that has dropped Kirsche Verstahl hours before the event, but it goes deeper...
Our video here: youtu.be/AQGcgsKa174?si=jD7Q…
After being invited for multiple years Kirsche was removed from the event moments before the event happened, with leaked discord conversations showing there may have been alterior motives. With many people upset with the situation, including loads of VTubers and fans who are getting screwed over hearing news of this just hours before the event
With political tensions in content, people are discussing what and where is too far, and the unprofessionalism of the event timing wise, and what/how the best way to handle this all
We discuss in a random VTuber video since the VTuber world has been pretty chill in terms of major drama :o
Honorable Chatters, unfortunately I won't be at Youmacon this year
I was really looking forward to this one, but it came down to sponsor concerns
If you bought a badge for my panel, you can email [email protected] by noon ET on Wednesday, October 28 with your order number, name, and email for a refund.
Thank you all for the support
Proctor Zakharov retweeted
I don't agree with every political view of hers AND I think giving in to pressure to remove her is a mistake. It might seem like the easiest way to avoid "controversy", but it makes your event look disorganized, shows you're easy to bully, and your sponsors end up taking that heat too. Also, looking at that ratio you've brought controversy to your own door by your own doing.
This is why I'm wary of corporate sponsors at cons. They become another group you have to keep happy, and suddenly you're making decisions around them instead of the people actually attending.
Once people figure out they can pressure your sponsors to get you to change course, you've handed them leverage over your event.
And when you're putting sponsors ahead of attendees who bought tickets to see her and showed REAL excitement to have her there, you've lost the plot.

If any vtuber celebrates Kirsche being removed and actually in the future tries to work with them is beyond naive!
- This is unprofessional
- They are trying to create Drama for attention
- They screw over vtubers
- They screw over people putting money into this
It doesn't matter what you think of Kirsche here. They have been asking her multiple times to join ( from what I have been told ), she finally agrees, and days before the event they make it a big public drama for attention!
If you don't think that they will do that with you the second they get an opportunity, or it could server them, you deserve to get screwed over!
This whole drama farming "wrong think" is beyond braindead! From both sides.
Coming from experience, since we were basically exiled by both sides of the political spectrum for "wrong think" and not publicly agreeing with either side!
This is what goes on behind the scenes even towards us! The reason why people don't see Zen and I "collab" or participate in anything!
I'm so tired of this bullshit! And shit people like these organizers!
Except for one person, second collab with him incoming soon!

"You should cancel this person ( kirsche, again ) because I FWEEL UNSAFE!"
Just what is the fox Vtuber going to do? Transform into a cacodemon and consume xir's soul?
These people suffer from multiple layers of severe psychosis that should be studied.

This paper answers why confident idiots run the world.
Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy.
It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.”
they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception.
And the results are wild.
participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile.
they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence.
the paper revealed a brutal paradox:
the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain.
if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing.
this creates a dangerous systemic loop.
the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions.
meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse.
top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else.
they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add.
we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence.
the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't.
the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

What are you guys going to do about this? One of your own Community Managers conspiring to get a guest cancelled. Will we see any action against them, or does the pressure only apply one way? What a waste of a convention, may it be your last.

For over a decade those of us in the gaming industry that wanted to do the hard work and provide the customers what we all wanted were called racists and bigots. They employed subterfuge in a million and one ways in the work place.
If you were seen browsing the wrong website, or watching a Critical Drinker video, you were put on "THE LIST"...
Slowly cut form social circles, overlooked for upward mobility and, in time, outright let go.
The schmoozers, the back scratchers, the toxically positive, the always smiling, and overly positive cannibalized the entire industry as they smiled, jocked and jeered, RELISHING in the bodies piling up of their slain enemies.
Now these DICK HEADS, all as one demand we mourn the loss of their jobs, the loss of control they held over the industry with bloodied knife.
For YEARS we had to listen to these posers wax poetic about how progressives and leftoids were the creative ones. That gamedev is predominantly leftist because leftists were the creative ones, they were the smart ones, they were the artists and the thinks.
For 10 years you SMARM FUCKS gleefully owned this industry and through every subversive tactic, collectively shat on your coworkers, your countrymen, your customers, and the fragile practice of gamedev.
All so you could huff your fucking farts, and cash easy paychecks.
Musta been nice while it lasted, the free ride is over.
Now we all must suffer this horrific decline.
FULL CLIP: Asmongold says the number one reason game studios fail is that when activists are involved in development, they don’t care about video games and instead push their ideology after reacting to EA shutting down BioWare 😳👀
“This is the big problem, is that whenever you have activists inside of video games, the big thing that's a problem is that activists don't care about video games fundamentally. It's not like the activist. All they wanna do is, they just wanna make a character g*y. The problem is that whenever you have those people that are involved in development, they have no interest in what the gameplay loop is. They have no interest in how fun it is to play. They have no interest in how interesting this boss fight is. They don't care about the narrative outside of how it dovetails into their ideology”

For 70 years, we were told plastic was safe because it doesn't react with anything.
Nature just published proof that it does. And the trigger is water.
Researchers at Columbia University and UC Berkeley took six of the most common plastics on Earth.
Polyethylene. Polypropylene. Polystyrene. PVC. PET. Acrylic.
The stuff in your water bottles, food containers, pipes and packaging.
They ground them into microplastics and dropped them into plain water.
Nothing else. No sunlight. No chemicals. Just plastic and water.
And the water started changing.
At the surface of every single plastic, it began producing hydroxyl radicals. One of the most reactive and destructive molecules in chemistry.
All six plastics did it. Every one.
To prove it, they added a yellow dye to water with polystyrene. Over 10 days, nearly 90% of the dye was destroyed. The water turned almost clear.
In other liquids, the dye survived. Only water made the plastic active.
In plain English:
The plastic isn't leaking a toxic chemical.
It is turning the water around it into something that attacks.
Then they tested what that does to living things.
DNA and proteins got pulled onto the plastic surface like magnets.
Proteins started clumping together.
And red blood cells that touched the particles were torn into broken fragments.
But here is the twist.
The most dangerous plastics were the ones we trusted most.
Polyethylene and polypropylene, the "safe" plastics in bottles and food containers, were the most reactive of all.
The effect was weaker in blood serum. But it was still there.
And microplastics have already been found in human blood, brains, placentas and arteries.
The lead researcher said it plainly: "Water is a key active player here, rather than just a spectator."
We spent decades asking what chemicals leak out of plastic.
Nobody thought to ask what plastic does to the water inside us.
How many times have you sipped from a plastic bottle today?
