We’re delighted to announce that three shortlisted nominees for this year’s Alliance Awards come from Coventry University Group!
The Alliance Awards, hosted by @UniAlliance, are an annual celebration of individuals or teams who have made a significant contribution to their university and local or global communities, going above and beyond to deliver substantial real-world impact.
The three nominees and their respective categories are:
◼️ Solar cookers in Rwanda - Global Impact category
The Solar Energy Transitions project, led by Dr Jonathan Nixon and Dr Alison Halford from our Research Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling, involved installing solar electronic cookers in 20 households in East Kayonza to reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal stoves, which harm health and the environment.
Results showed a reduction in firewood consumption from 3.4kg to 0.86kg per day and a 70% improvement in kitchen air quality, contributing to healthier living environments and saving time. Learn more: pulse.ly/i5dvdm4pt0
◼️ Andrew Turner, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Curriculum at Coventry University - Lifetime Achievement category
Andrew has spent many years at Coventry University, leading educational and curriculum development.
He is among the most innovative problem-solving curriculum leaders in the country and has led several wholesale curriculum redesigns across all educational entities within Coventry University Group.
◼️ Hope 4 The Community - Local Impact category
@HOPE4TC (H4C) supports those with long-term health conditions through evidence-based self-management programmes.
Originating from our Research Centre for Intelligent Healthcare, H4C combines positive psychology, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioural therapy to enhance participants' quality of life. Their programmes, including the Hope Programme, have reached over 30,000 people.

“Investment in personalised prevention cannot come at the expense of action on the wider determinants of health. New approaches to personalised prevention are just one part of the broader action required to deliver the government’s ambition to improve health and narrow inequalities.”

ALT Five key assumptions about personalised prevention Does the political rhetoric match reality? 1. Data and technology will be used by health care professionals to provide more personalised care 2. Polygenic risk scores and AI tools will be widely available and deliver superior clinical value 3. Personalising prevention will deliver improved health outcomes and behaviour change 4. People will access, interpret and act upon their personal health data 5. Condition self-management tools will reduce pressure on health services
