Southwest State President Lafta-Gareen has announced that his administration boycotted the new constitution recently passed by Somalia’s Federal Parliament, calling it illegitimate.
Lafta-Gareen emphasized that Southwest State recognizes only the 2012 Provisional Constitution and will not accept changes made without broad consensus among Somalia’s federal and Federal member States authorities.
He delivered a full speech outlining the state’s position, highlighting concerns over legal procedures, national unity, and the @TheVillaSomalia's interference in the Southwest state of #Somalia.

HSM & Damuljadiid’s attempt to impose unlawful constitution has unraveled Somalia’s fragile political settlement. Power personalized, driven by greed & corruption, has left him increasingly isolated. HSM’s convening authority runs to May 15—after that, he is a former president.
#BREAKING: Southwest State President Lafta-Gareen resigns from @HassanSMohamud's JSP deputy chairmanship after a fall-out.
"I, the President of Southwest State, H.E. Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), hereby resign from my position as Deputy Chairman of the JSP, effective today, March 18, 2026.
I cannot support actions that are unconstitutional and that undermine our unity.
My commitment remains steadfast to Somalia’s unity, democracy, and the rule of law". #Somalia

New XCEPT report by @Prof_Awet from @queensu about whether the move of the Sudan state apparatus to Port Sudan is a genuine decentralisation or a reproduction of centre–periphery inequalities.
🧵Will Sudan’s new centre endure as a periphery?
A thread on what it means when a historically marginalised city becomes the seat of power – and why it may not be enough to fix Sudan’s centre–periphery divide.

My book, Eritrea’s Liberation Journey: 1969 To 1981 and Beyond is now out and available at LuLu Publishing (USA) in paperback and Ebook. This book continues my first work, The Dynamics of an Unfinished African Dream: Eritrea Ancient Times to 1968. Between 1969 and 1981, #Eritrea’s fight for independence reached a critical turning point—a decade marked by inspiring victories and deep divisions.
This book unravels the complexities of Eritrea’s liberation struggle, exploring the internal rifts and external forces that shaped its trajectory. Through an impartial lens, it examines how these events set the stage for the rise of a dictatorial regime and ongoing conflicts that continue to challenge the nation today.
More than a historical account, this work offers vital insights into the sacrifices of Eritrea’s past and the lessons it holds for its future. It calls for inclusive leadership, national reconciliation, and a renewed commitment to the dreams of independence—a democratic and unified Eritrea that honors its diverse populace and heroic history

Experience & political acumen are essential qualities for leading an important multilateral institution like the AUC. H.E. @ymahmoudali possesses these qualities. His commitment to addressing complex regional & global challenges has been evident throughout his tenure as Foreign Minister of #Djibouti, where he effectively collaborated with both member states & major global powers on key #African priorities. These skills will undoubtedly prove invaluable should he be entrusted with the role of AUC Chairperson!
