At NATO Days 2026 in Ostrava, the Czech Republic presents National Air Defense with Rafael's SPYDER At a ceremony hosted by the Czech Republic on 19 September 2026, during NATO Days in Ostrava, one of Europe's largest security and defense events, marking its 25th anniversary and coinciding with Czech Air Force Day, before some 200,000 attendees, Czech leadership and Rafael presented a landmark milestone in the two nations' defense partnership: the SPYDER air defense system. The milestone was marked at the highest levels of government. The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Andrej Babiš, the Minister of Defense, Mr. Jaromír Zůna, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and the Commander of the Czech Air Force were joined by the Chairman of Rafael, Prof. Yuval Steinitz, with SPYDER on site.  Operational Capability & Adaptation to NATO Standards SPYDER is in operational service with a double-digit number of customers worldwide and has now completed its adaptation to NATO standards. The Czech SPYDER program is built on an operationally proven system in service with a double-digit number of customers worldwide. For the Czech Republic, it has been adapted with relevant upgrades to meet the requirements of the Czech armed forces and standards that meet NATO benchmarks and, in some areas, exceed them. The system is being validated through demanding testing, trials, and interoperability scenarios, including the ability to distinguish between targets in complex operational environments. When the Czech Republic selected SPYDER in 2021 through a Government-to-Government agreement led by the Israel Ministry of Defense, it joined a growing group of nations operating the system.  Delivery & National Defense Array The partnership has since moved from signature to delivered capability: the first two of four contracted SPYDER batteries are already in the Czech Republic, and all have been manufactured. What began as a four-battery program is evolving toward a comprehensive, integrated national air defense capability spanning short- to long-range, with significant potential for further expansion. Potential developments might include a national-level command-and-control (C2) capability, ballistic missile defense, counter-UAS interceptors, and laser-based capabilities, alongside full interoperability with Czech and NATO standards.  A Strategic Partnership & Shared Industrial Future The strategic relationship between Israel and the Czech Republic is reflected not only at the governmental level, but also in Rafael's strong, longstanding partnership with the Czech defense industry, rooted in historic ties and genuine friendship between two allies. Cooperation with the local Czech industry has been central to the program, supporting the local economy and enabling knowledge transfer. AFA 2026: For the first time, Rafael's SPICE 1000 is being integrated on the F-35 Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. is integrating its SPICE 1000 air-to-surface munition on the F-35 Adir fighter aircraft. SPICE 1000 is an advanced air-to-surface munition capable of striking fixed and high-value targets at ranges of more than 120 km. It is equipped with an electro-optical seeker . The munition homes in on its target using advanced scene-matching algorithms and is optimized for the challenges of the modern battlefield. SPICE 1000 has been sold to several countries and is in operational service with a number of air forces worldwide. It has served as a primary munition of the Israeli Air Force for several years, including extensive use in recent long-range operations flown from F-15 and F-16 aircraft. The integration on the F-35 is being carried out as a joint project between Rafael and Lockheed Martin, at Lockheed Martin facilities in the United States. The SPICE family is a line of precision-guided air-to-surface munitions with a range of up to 120 km, produced in three weight classes. The family was developed by Rafael and was awarded the Israel Defense Prize.

What happens when GPS is no longer enough? 🎯 For years, satellite navigation systems have been the beating heart of precision weaponry. But the modern battlefield is changing rapidly. Electronic interference and heavy GPS jamming are turning reliance on satellite navigation into a growing challenge. “A decade from now, GPS-guided weapons may be significantly less effective.” In the attached video clip, a senior official at Rafael explains how they are preparing today for the post-GPS era, and how Rafael’s sophisticated, autonomous guidance systems, which have learned to see and think for themselves, are becoming increasingly important on the battlefield.
