Last night marked the official opening of the 48th Regional Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region, and it was a pleasure to welcome our regional parliamentary family to Jamaica. 🇯🇲
As Speaker of the House of Representatives of our host Parliament, I was honoured to welcome Speakers, Presiding Officers, Clerks, and fellow Parliamentarians from across the region as we begin several days of dialogue, learning, and collaboration.
Beyond the formal discussions, gatherings like these strengthen the relationships between our Parliaments and remind us of the value of sharing our experiences as we work toward stronger democratic institutions across the region.
I look forward to a productive and memorable conference ahead.

A secure maritime space plays an important role in security operations and in how we respond during times of crisis and national need.
When Hurricane Melissa affected Jamaica last October, maritime access and coordination with regional and international partners helped to move supplies, restore communication, and deliver relief. Appreciation is extended for the support provided to Jamaica’s recovery, especially through airlift capacity.
As climate risks continue to increase across the Caribbean, this area of cooperation will become even more important. A secure maritime environment is key to building resilience and protecting communities.
The work of the sailors and officers aboard the USS Nimitz is often unseen, but it is felt in the stability it helps to maintain and the readiness it provides when it is needed most.
