It's amazing how many people had these extraordinarily productive writing careers happen to take off around late 2025. Decades of silence then they're churning out articles, books. Good Christians that they are, who would never dream of fraud or theft, God must be inspiring them.
We need to stop AI slop on @amazon.
Dr. Barry Knowles has published 142 books on unrelated topics on Amazon since 2024. No references to Brother Vincent Gregory exist online except ~15 books he's published since this summer.
They appear to be all be AI slop, but might confuse people. The 1st book below might be suggested after my book; someone I know bought the 2nd book, not realizing it was AI.
On a theoretical level it's worrying to see people argue that without a belief in God / judgment anything would be licit, for the exact reason David articulates. In addition, I've noticed that the people who make this sort of argument consistently turn out to be creeps.
Why can't the MAGA Catholics admit they are heretics? rebeccabrattenweiss.substack…
A trend in right wing religious culture: acting like beauty proves something. "This culture made pretty art, it must be moral." "These people are hot, they must be virtuous."
Is it sheer stupidity, or the semi-stupidity that comes of reading Aquinas but not understanding him?
Oh man the "I'm not political" Catholics really are going to keep on with their whole "there is no far right, just a few fringe weirdos" nonsense even after they helped put the fringe weirdos in the highest positions in the land.
We commonly talk about wealthy privileged oppressors as "the powerful" but when you pare away the resources they have unjustly accrued, these are some of the weakest folks you'll meet.
They are like the Daleks in Dr. Who. Strip away their armor and what's left?
OK, fine. Toxic empathy is bad.
On the novel Lolita, the people who got mad at me for teaching it, and why the christofascist crowd is inadvertently right about toxic empathy.

I feel this way about anyone who chooses to side with their oppressor instead of standing in solidarity with their fellow oppressed. I used to be like "oh it's complicated." No. It's cruel, and it's weak: two terrible things to be.
#CatholicChurch is filled with women who support and uphold the patriarchy.
Are you “prolife?” ✔️
Think only men can be priests? ✔️
Don’t question church doctrine related to women and our bodies? ✔️
The MAGAs would like us to be nicer to them.
I wrote about why far right Christians judge everyone then get mad when they get judged back.

The situation is amusing in a dystopian way because the Tweedy Postliberal Catholic crowd adores Vance but has made lamenting about AI part of their brand. It's a great reminder not to ally with creeps just because you hate queer folks so much. (Also, stop hating queer folks.)
In leaked audio recordings, Peter Thiel revealed he told JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral issues, including the development of ethical AI.
Calling Leo XIV the “woke American pope,” he also suggested the American pope was a tool of the Antichrist.
Now, Pope Leo XIV is releasing what’s expected to be an historic encyclical addressing AI tomorrow morning. thelettersfromleo.com/p/new-…
C.S. Lewis' final book in his Narnia trilogy offers insights into the MAGA Christians who make a fake Jesus and purport to speak in his name.

OK, it looks like some of you good folks I used to interact with here are still active. I'm dropping in to see how it's all going. Kind of a T.S. Eliot-wanders-through-the-Wasteland vibe for us all maybe.
Any woman who’s in the public eye knows men fixate on how we look, even when it’s irrelevant.

This was a fun conversation that really highlighted how much we CAN get from these literary classics, once we put aside the lens of right wing ideology.
My interview with Rebecca Bratten Weiss about her new book, "The Books that Made Us" with critical nods to Chesterton, Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene, Flannery O'Connor, and more. @RBrattenWeiss @OrbisBooks youtu.be/ZI8T9ddtkiQ?si=eKy1…
