It's not the case that children with dyslexia need identical instruction as typically developing kids, just a higher dose: @markseidenberg explains seidenbergreading.net/blog/o…
So grateful for an unexpected blessing with the opportunity to join the ELD team and Van Hoosen Middle School. Met a few families and students today...what a great new beginning.

Our community is heartbroken over the violence at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad. Our thoughts remain with those who may be impacted. Professional RCS support services are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 17-18, at Reuther Middle School or by phone at 248-726-4700.
Grateful for the 1st responders in our community. Senseless tragedy... so many lives forever changed.

Be brave friends. Stand up for the world you believe in - for the vision of readers with choice and freedom and the integral role of libraries in our society. You matter. We matter. And we are always stronger together.
A reminder to myself as a district searches for a swap. Listen to teachers & listen to students.
Qualitative data is data.

This is a cautionary tale. Throwing out one curriculum and swapping it in for a new one is not it. Leaders....are you listening?

Explicit, systematic instruction in phonics: Professional learning by UFLI reminding teachers that phonemic awareness and grapheme phoneme correspondence are necessary for encoding and decoding
Twenty-seven years in elementary education and more than 13 curricular resources/methodologies for reading... I do believe all children can learn to read. If we could focus more on pedagogy and a bit less on resource roulette, I think we'd increase success.
