Led by new running back Quavaris Crouch, Johnson C. Smith ran past Tuskegee, 21-13, at the Red Tails Classic in Montgomery, AL, Sunday night. Crouch, a transfer from Michigan State who played at Charlotte’s Harding High School, ran 20 times for 165 yards and a touchdown. His 75-yard touchdown run to start the second half was the difference. Likely the biggest recruit ever at Smith, Crouch was once the nation’s top high school football recruit after leading Harding to a rare state title as a junior seven years ago. On Sunday, Smith quarterback Darius Ocean threw for 161 yards and two touchdowns, hooking up with former Ardrey Kell High star Brevin Caldwell seven times for 90 yards and both of the scores. Smith (1-0) won its third straight regular-season game, dating to last year, and plays at Morehouse Saturday.
