“It is truly powerful to be part of a team and community that continues to strive for the welfare of animals worldwide on a daily basis and the new ways in which we collaborate to put them at the fore of our mission.
I cannot wait to see how we can continue to impact the lives of dogs who are suitable for rehoming, whilst addressing the negative connotations and perceptions of what adopting a dog from overseas means. I remain incredibly touched by our adopters who are committed on so many levels to the dogs they have welcomed into their homes, with a complete understanding and openness to their needs and what they have been through.” Maddy, UK Adoptions Manager
This is what 20 years of ROLDA looks like, through the people who made it possible.
As we mark our 20th year in 2026, we are incredibly grateful to the people on the ground rescuing animals, the teams supporting them behind the scenes, and the supporters who make this work possible - here’s to another 20 years of impact and giving hope to animals who need it most ♥️🐾

There are over 500,000 stray animals in Romania, and the heartbreaking reality is that suffering can become something people simply get used to seeing 💔
Alma had been living on the streets of Bucharest with a deep, open wound on her abdomen. It wasn’t a new injury. She had been seen before, and people knew she was hurt, but nobody had stepped in to help her.
Until one of our ROLDA Heroes did ❤️🩹
Alma was taken for X-rays, where thankfully no internal injuries were found, before undergoing surgery to clean and close the wound.
Her recovery will take time, but she is now receiving treatment and has somewhere safe and warm to heal.
With so many stray animals on the streets, it can be easy to assume that someone else will help, or to become desensitised to seeing an animal struggling. We never want suffering like Alma’s to become something we simply accept.
No animal’s pain should be ignored.
We’re incredibly grateful to the ROLDA Hero who chose to stop for Alma, and to every person who supports our work so that when the next animal needs someone to notice them, we can be there. ❤️
If you would like to contribute to Alma’s ongoing care, please consider making a donation: rolda.org/donate/

Across Ukraine, local rescuers are doing everything they can to care for animals whose lives have been turned upside down by the war.
Our ROLDA Rescue Hero, Lyudmilla is one of them.
Every day, she cares for stray cats who are hungry, sick or injured, providing food and helping them access veterinary treatment when they need it.
She knows these animals and the communities they live in, but the resources available to her are limited. That’s where ROLDA, and your support, can make a difference.
By supporting our ROLDA Heroes, we can provide rescuers like Lyudmilla with the resources they need to continue showing up for animals who have nobody else to rely on.
Could you help us support Lyudmilla and other ROLDA Heroes caring for animals in Ukraine? Donate today: rolda.org/donate/ ❤️

If you’re looking for a dog who absolutely loves his people, Jder might be your boy. ❤️
Rescued from the streets, Jder is a friendly and affectionate six-year-old who loves spending time with people. He has a gentle, sweet nature and is happiest when he can enjoy plenty of human company.
Jder walks well on a lead and has a moderate energy level, so he would love a family to share his walks and everyday adventures with.
Although Jder gets along well with other dogs, he is looking for a home where he can be the only dog and enjoy having his family to himself - something he deserves after all he’s been through.
Jder is available for adoption in the UK and Sweden.

You can also sponsor Jder from anywhere in the world while he waits for his forever home.

This sweet boy was found on the streets of Galați, Romania, with severe injuries to his back legs and was clearly in pain.
We don’t know what happened to him, but the person who found him knew he needed help and contacted ROLDA.
We were able to get him straight to our vet, where his injuries could be treated and his recovery could begin.
His wounds are serious and he still has a long way to go, but every day we are seeing a little more progress. He is safe, receiving the care he needs and finally has the chance to leave his suffering behind.
So many rescues begin with someone simply choosing not to look away. If you ever see an animal in need and have the opportunity to help, please choose kindness. It could change their life. ❤️

Dogs might be a big part of what we do, but they’re far from the only animals we help. 🐾
ROLDA stands for animal welfare, and that means showing up for animals in need, no matter the species.
Over the years, that has meant rescuing and supporting dogs, cats, donkeys, pigs, rabbits and so many others who needed someone in their corner. ❤️
We’ll never turn our backs on an animal who needs help, and with your support, we can keep giving hope to more animals.
Your donation could help us continue being there for animals who need us: rolda.org/donate/ 🐾

When our ROLDA Hero found this beautiful girl in Palestine, she was dirty, hungry, injured and completely alone 😓
She was frightened and wouldn’t let anyone get close enough to help her, but leaving her behind simply wasn’t an option.
Our ROLDA Hero used a humane trap to safely rescue her and took her straight to the vet, where she is now being examined and receiving the care she needs.
We don’t know the full extent of her injuries yet, and we don’t know exactly what her recovery will look like.
What we do know is that her life has already changed 🥹
She is off the streets, she is safe, and there are now people fighting to give her the second chance she deserves. ❤️🩹
This is what your support of our ROLDA Heroes makes possible. It gives local rescuers the resources to step in when an animal desperately needs someone to notice them and choose to help.

This month, our Pet of the Month is a little rescue dog who has been making a very big impression: Rosa! 🐾
Rosa didn’t have the easiest start in life, but since finding her forever family in the UK, she has shown everyone just how incredible rescue dogs can be.
She is loving, intelligent, adventurous and apparently rather award-winning too! Earlier this year, Rosa entered her local dog fete and came home with Best Rescue Dog AND Best in Show. 🥹🏆
Her past has never stopped her from embracing everything her new life has to offer, and seeing her so loved, confident and thriving is exactly what we hope for every dog who comes into ROLDA’s care.
Rosa’s story is also a beautiful reminder of what can happen when someone chooses to give a rescue dog their chance. ❤️🩹
Could your rescue pet be our next Pet of the Month? rolda.org/petpal-gallery/ ✨
Entries are open worldwide, and the winner will be featured on our website and social media and receive their very own ROLDA bandana.

Mark’s previous owner left him at a veterinary clinic and never came back ❤️🩹
He was unfortunately abandoned by his family simply for being a dog and occasionally barking at birds, a behaviour that could have so easily been addressed.
Mark didn’t understand why the person he trusted disappeared, but despite being left behind, he remains a sweet and loyal boy who loves being close to people. He can be slightly hesitant when meeting someone new, but quickly settles and forms strong bonds once he feels comfortable.
At almost six years old, Mark is ready for the second chance he deserves. He enjoys his walks, gets along well with other dogs and could happily share his home with a canine companion.
Mark is around 23kg and is available for adoption in the UK and Sweden.

You can also sponsor Mark from anywhere in the world while he waits for someone to choose him.

Today is the final day of our matching campaign, and every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000, helping us secure an armoured vehicle for these lifesaving missions.

When the war in Ukraine began, the lives of thousands of animals were turned upside down…
Some were left behind as their families were forced to flee, while others were found injured or trying to survive in communities devastated by war.
Thanks to our ROLDA Heroes, more than 27,000 animals have been rescued and given the chance to leave that fear behind.
The transformations you see are what those rescue missions make possible. Animals who have experienced so much can finally feel safe again and begin a completely different chapter of their lives.
There are still countless animals waiting for that same second chance.
Until 15 October, every donation towards our Ukraine response is being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000. Your support can help our ROLDA Heroes continue reaching animals who desperately need them.

Our ROLDA Heroes see some incredibly heartbreaking cases 😔
In areas affected by conflict, emergency support for animals caught directly in the crisis is essential. At the same time, everyday rescue work cannot stop.
Animals are still abandoned. They still become sick and injured, and they still need emergency veterinary care. The people trying to help them are doing so while resources are already incredibly stretched.
That’s why your support of our ROLDA Heroes matters so much.
When this senior dog was found in Palestine, he had been lying on the street unable to walk for almost two weeks. He had suffered severe injuries, his wounds were badly infected, and by the time our ROLDA Hero was contacted, he desperately needed medical attention.
Your support meant we could help our ROLDA Hero step in and get him to a veterinary hospital, where he received the intensive treatment he needed to survive.
He still has a long recovery ahead of him, but he is eating and getting stronger. Most importantly, he now has the opportunity to experience a very different life from the one he was rescued from. ❤️🩹

On 31 August, one of our partner rescue vehicles was hit by a drone while travelling through the Kramatorsk region. Two rescuers were injured and hospitalised.
This is the reality our ROLDA Heroes face as they travel into dangerous areas near the frontline to rescue animals who have been left behind.
More than 27,000 animals have already been evacuated since the war began, and there are still so many waiting to be reached.
We want our rescuers to be able to continue these missions with the protection they desperately need. That is why we are raising funds towards a second-hand, fully armoured vehicle.
Until 15 October, every donation is being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000, which means your support can take us twice as far towards making that possible: rolda.org/matching-gift-chal…

Tyra hasn’t had the easiest start in life, and right now, the world can still feel like a very big place. ❤️🩹
Before coming to ROLDA, Tyra had very little experience of life outside the shelter or of spending time with people. New situations can feel overwhelming, but in calm surroundings where she feels safe, we can see she’s starting to take those important little steps forward.
Tyra is kind by nature and allows our team to gently handle and care for her. She gets along well with other dogs and could live with a confident canine companion who may help her feel more secure.
What she needs now is a patient, experienced family who understands shy dogs and will give her the time she needs to discover that the world can be a safe and happy place.
Tyra is around 10kg and is available for adoption in the UK and Sweden.

It’s our founder Dana’s birthday! 🎉🐾
For more than 20 years, Dana has dedicated her life to helping animals, and every year, her birthday wish comes back to the same thing: to help more animals who have nowhere else to turn ❤️
This year, that wish has taken on a very different meaning.
Dana has travelled to Ukraine multiple times and joined our ROLDA Heroes as they work near the frontline. She knows firsthand the risks they take to reach animals trapped in places where few others are willing to go.
More than 27,000 animals have already been evacuated, but so many are still waiting.
For Dana’s birthday this year, her wish is simple: that our ROLDA Heroes can keep reaching them without having to risk their lives in an unprotected vehicle. ❤️🩹
We are raising funds to help secure a second-hand, fully armoured vehicle so our ROLDA Heroes have greater protection when they travel into these dangerous areas.
Right now, every donation is also being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000, which means your birthday gift to Dana can take us twice as far towards making her wish a reality.
🎂 Celebrate with us by making a birthday donation in Dana’s honour: rolda.org/matching-gift-chal…

Our ROLDA Hero, Ruslan, was struck by a drone on a recent mission to evacuate animals near the frontline in Ukraine
Up to three times a week, he travels into high-risk areas where animals have been left behind, helping evacuate them to safety.
Since the war began, these missions have helped save more than 27,000 animals, but countless more still need help.
The danger facing the people trying to reach them is also growing.
Our ROLDA Heroes are determined to keep saving animals, but we need to help protect them while they do it.
We are raising funds towards a second-hand, fully armoured vehicle that will give our rescuers greater protection as they continue these lifesaving missions.
Until 15 October, every donation is being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000, so your gift can take us twice as far towards getting them the vehicle they urgently need.

If left untreated, 90% of dogs with parvovirus will die. It’s an awful disease and one we sadly see far too often.
A family living near our shelter had taken in five vulnerable puppies when they became seriously ill with parvovirus. They knew the puppies needed veterinary treatment, so they reached out to ROLDA.
Our team stepped in to help them access the care the puppies desperately needed. Sadly, despite everyone’s efforts, two of the puppies didn’t survive.
Three of them did, and they are now healthy, growing stronger and have an even happier chapter ahead of them.
The family who fought so hard to help them has decided to keep all three, giving them the safe and loving home they deserve 🥹
Parvo is preventable through vaccination, yet it remains incredibly dangerous for young and unvaccinated dogs. This is why access to preventative care and veterinary treatment matters so much, particularly in communities where vulnerable and stray animals need our help.
At ROLDA, we’ve always believed that rescue goes beyond removing a dog from a situation. We work tirelessly alongside other ROLDA Heroes to provide education, resources and medical care for local communities.
Your support allows ROLDA to be there when animals and the people trying to help them need somewhere to turn. ❤️

This little boy has been through so much 😔 When our team found him in Smardan, Romania, a severe infection had badly damaged both of his eyes.
We rushed him to our vet, but despite everything that was done to help him, the damage was already too advanced, and his eyesight could not be saved.
He is now completely blind, but he is adjusting incredibly well. He loves being held, purrs when he feels a gentle touch and is already making new friends while recovering at our cat sanctuary.
His life is going to look a little different, and our team will be there to help him learn how to navigate it safely. Most importantly, he now has people around him who will make sure he receives the care he needs and knows just how loved he is. ❤️🩹
Now all that’s missing is a name! What do you think we should call our brave little boy? Let us know in the comments 🥹
