RIP Todd Benzinger, 63. Was a 4th-round pick for #RedSox in 1981 #MLB Draft. Made his debut with the Sox in 1987. Was traded to #Reds in 1988 and won the World Series with them in 1990. Benzinger is the 11th former BOS player to pass away this year.

#RedSox third base coach Chad Epperson to manage at Triple-A Worcester next season. Epperson had managed at Double-A Portland before last April's coaching reorganization. BOS first base coach Pablo Cabrera will return to being minor-league defensive coordinator. rsnstats.link/I2xA

I'm putting the final touches on an all-new RSNStats Newsletter, the first one of the offseason, with news and notes for #RedSox fans. There's still time to sign up at rsnstats.com/newletter. It's free.

A day without #RedSox baseball is hard enough. A day without any baseball is just miserable 😭

Another #RedSox front office exec steps up to a bigger role as #Athletics announce Taylor Smith as their new president of baseball operations. Trained in math and stats, the 31-year-old was a Senior VP and Assistant GM for BOS. He came to the Sox after 7 years in the #Rays front office.

#Orioles name one-time #RedSox front office exec Jared Banner as club’s new General Manager. Mike Elias remains club president of baseball operations. Banner was most recently #Cubs Assistant General Manager. Banner began his career in #RedSox baseball operations, rising to VP of player personnel.

All-time #RedSox with a triple and home run in a postseason game: Johnny Damon in 2004 World Series Game 4 at #Cardinals. Kevin Youkilis in 2007 ALCS Game 5 at #Indians. Brock Holt in 2018 ALDS Game 4 at #Yankees (hit for the cycle).

#Guardians (then #Indians) were also in the ALCS on this day in 2007. #RedSox trailed 3-1 in the series that year but won Game 5 on the strength of a terrific start for Josh Beckett, who struck out 11 over 8.0 IP. Kevin Youkilis tripled and homered vs CC Sabathia that night.

Yesterday’s was a miserable anniversary in #RedSox history. Aaron Boone was involved in it 23 years ago. I didn’t even bring it up. Tonight, though, is a far happier anniversary just a year later. And another current baseball manager features in this one. Dave Roberts will always be a hero here. rsnstats.link/XEP

#Guardians are two wins from their 7th ever World Series appearance, the first since 2016 when they lost to #Cubs, 4-games-to-3. CLE has not won the Fall Classic since 1948, which is the longest active championship drought in baseball.

#Brewers are 6th #MLB team ever to sweep a 100+ win team in a postseason series, the first since #RedSox swept #Cardinals in 2004 World Series.

3 #RedSox are Gold Glove finalists: Caleb Durbin, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu. Durbin led all AL third basemen with +13 DRS. Rafaela’s 10 five-star catches led all qualified outfielders. Abreu's +28 DRS led all #MLB players by a wide margin. Winners announced November 1.

Of 17 teams like 2026 #Brewers to hold a 3-0 advantage in any League Championship Series (regardless of series length), 16 have gone on to win the series and advance to the World Series. The lone exception was 2004 #Yankees, whose season ended with a historic #RedSox comeback.

David Ortiz! David Ortiz! David Ortiz! Before he was on @NESN Dave O'Brien called #RedSox games on the radio. And 13 years ago today he made one of the all-time great calls in postseason history. youtu.be/DciKvgbqyTM?si=Iqpf… #chills

#Brewers David Hamilton is the first player in #MLB history with multiple hits, stolen bases, and runs scored in a postseason game from the No. 9 spot in the order. Former #RedSox is just 24th player in history (and first for MIL) with that postseason line from any spot in the order.

Two former #RedSox came up big in Championship Series games today. #Brewers David Hamilton was 2-for-3 with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored in their 7-4 win over #Dodgers. #Guardians Nathaniel Lowe delivered 2 late-game RBI for a 4-2 lead over #Rays. CLE has a 5-3 lead in the 9th of that game.

Among other things, #MLB has proposed returning to a 154 game schedule (as it was until 1960), with a standard off-day each week. But as with every league proposal to date, it all rests on the Players Union accepting a salary cap system. rsnstats.link/ofQ

Fans, reviewing the transcript again today I can't find Breslow saying Durbin didn't need surgery six days ago. He said Anthony didn't need surgery, said Durbin was still being evaluated, so looks like I got that wrong. Thanks for pointing it out.
