People are saying web3 gaming is back. But what does that mean exactly? And how does web2 actually experience the change right now?
I recently watched an extremely valuable video of a game publisher and indie dev discussing the state of gaming. Here is the gist of it:
Old gaming is absolutely done. Now it's all about fast iteration and testing:
Build one room. Give people a fun gameplay loop. Put it live. If players respond, build more.
That’s how Roblox developers described their process.
If you hold $RYFT, that example gets right to the heart of what we’re building.
Make the first attempt cheaper and faster.
They’re seeing developers pitch games with budgets around $20,000 and timelines of three to six months. Others test a Roblox concept in just one or two months. With RYFT, this is reduced to a day. That’s why AI-assisted creation matters to us: more people can try an idea without committing years of their lives before finding out whether anyone enjoys it.
Let the audience help shape the game.
They described developers updating games daily while people are already playing. Imagine a streamer doing that with their community: viewers suggest something, test it, and come back to see what changed. For Ryft, creation itself can become content - and the community can participate from day one.
Give people something fun to do together.
One other point was that lightweight multiplayer games (aka friend slop) could have huge staying power. A small game can become a weekly tournament, a rivalry between communities, or something friends jump into after a stream. Those are the kinds of experiences we want creators building on Ryft.
Help creators get all the way to players.
They questioned publishers that only arrive once a developer already has a game, wishlists, and attention. That’s why our ambition extends across creation, publishing, discovery, monetization and community. Getting something built is valuable. Getting people playing it is where the opportunity becomes real.
Support more attempts, then grow what works.
Their phrase was “more bets, smaller bets.” I think that captures a lot of the opportunity here. Shared tools make each attempt easier. Players show creators what connects. The promising ideas get more time and attention.
They also made a point I agree with: copying whatever is popular produces a lot of interchangeable games. Faster tools alone won’t make people care.
What makes me bullish on Ryft is giving more people the tools to make something worth playing, a place to build a community around it and a way to immediately monetize it.
We saw this trend coming 2 years ago, and spent that time building the foundation for all of this.
If we execute the next months correctly, we and the whole $RYFT community will be perfectly positioned to reap the rewards of our labor and conviction.
