Fantastic work (and great read!) by @Sabine_Soltani and @MelanieNoel - pulling from pediatric depression models to generate a new, integrative model of the co-occurrence of depression and chronic pain in youth and contributing factors. Next up - novel tx?? bit.ly/2RcnVwd
As white women it’s imperative to acknowledge our privilege and work to understand the violent history from which that power manifests. And more important - that we relinquish power to make room for WOC and women with intersecting minority identities, so we can ALL rise together.
Go @EmmaFisher1 !!! Wish I was there!!
Great women in science content at #APS2019 & #CanadianPain19 has me thinking. I’ve tried to “be more like a man” in my career. But why discount femininity? What if minority qualities were valued equally professionally? Conforming to [white, cis] masculine standards is getting old
Congrats!!!
Congrats to our Canadian pain superstars @MelanieNoel @drbeccapr @JeffreyMogil who received prestigious @AmericanPainSoc awards and put together an excellent Hockey/Maple Syrup themed acceptance #CanadianPain19 👌🏼🇨🇦
“How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one, but the lightbulb really has to want to change.” Leave it to Rob Edwards to lead his presentation on pain psychology with a joke! #APS2019
At #APS2019, @BethDarnall highlights the danger of nocebo effects in opioid tapering, and emphasizes the importance of applying the same biopsychosocial model we do to pain intervention to opioid tapering.
I love seeing so much culture X emotion work presented at #2019SAS !! Great work!!
Bob levenson always full of wisdom. Tonight, he advices us: “The greatest gift in science is when you find out you’re dead wrong... then you can move on” and highlights the integrity in following your data #2019SAS @affectscience
.... fantastic follow-up question by @annkring “easy for you to say, but what if you have to get a PhD or tenure?” And a great answer by Bob levenson: “design studies that are interesting whether you are right or wrong!”
Programming like this is what makes #2019SAS and @affectscience so special!
Inaugural session for #2019SAS: Trajectories, Transitions, and Turning Points, feat. Phoebe Ellsworth, Valeria Gazzola, and Bob Levenson, moderated by @annkring!
SO EXCITING!!
Exciting annoucement - @affectScience is starting a journal, “Affective Science”, with @springerpub!
