Thanks to @Braylon_Breeze for the very enjoyable conversation & for letting me expand on a few stories from 40 years of broadcasting life I haven’t previously told in detail. Hopefully many more 🎙️ years to come.

Might surprise you that a quintessentially American sports moment should captivate a young (at the time!) Scot. Will never forget where I was when Kirk Gibson did this. Harvard Square, 1988. Narrated by the legendary Vin Scully.

Today in 1988: Barely able to walk, Kirk Gibson gave us a home run celebration we’ve all imitated. This pinch-hit, walk-off in Game 1 was his only at-bat of the World Series.

Noticed my commentary sheet getting more attention than usual on here :) Keep in mind: - It’s purely for my own use as part of my prep. No one else‘s - Copying & pasting is not learning - My eyes are on the pitch but if I need to glance at it, I know where the info is. 1/2

Every commentator does it differently. Why? Because we all digest information & learn in different ways. There’s no correct way for us all. Only what fits the individual. This has been my way for 40+ years. And why just 1 page? Because we often work in cramped spaces. 2/2

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 striker Robbie Ure off the mark with Sevilla. His first goal in La Liga in the 13th minute at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium against Levante.

And Ure has added a headed assist, setting up Felix Correia for 2:0. Hard working performance by the Glaswegian tonight. Real Madrid at the Bernabeu next weekend for him & Sevilla.

Had a situation yesterday where a well struck on target shot (by Schalke‘s Gantenbein) went in. Replays later showed a very slight unintentional deflection (off the backside) of his captain Karaman. Goal however officially given to Gantenbein & find this good.

After all, had it gone in off the backside of a defender yet been going in anyway, it would never be an own goal. Right in my view to consider the nature of the goal & credit the player who actually made it happen rather than someone whose involvement was inadvertent.

Looking Ahead: Next Sunday’s Real Madrid vs. Sevilla match will air on over-the-air ABC at 3:00 p.m. ET. It will be LaLiga’s first match on ABC since Elche–Barcelona on Matchday 1, which drew an all-time high U.S. English-language audience for the league (1.0 million).

Imagine my surprise to have this clip from yesteryear suddenly pop up on the feed :) Great memories of the times when we were privileged to broadcast the Champions League to large chunks of the world 🌎 @TommySmythESPN :) And Thierry Henry gave us plenty of wonderful moments.

Annoying that people only talk about Henry's performance vs Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. He was great in the 2nd leg as well! One man attack Almost scored another solo goal, created big chances, and was denied by an incredible casillas save.

One of the most genuine in the TV business & in my view an underrated pro. Miss our many times discussing football & the world in general over coffee in west London.

1 more game before the international break here in Germany and then a much needed holiday after being on the road since early August. A development to share is I’ll be back on ESPN/ABC La Liga commentary from time to time once club ⚽️ returns. Looking forward to it.
