لقد سررتُ كثيرا بزيارة مدينة غريان ولقاء رئيس بلديتها، ناصر برشان، وأعضاء المجلسين البلدي والاجتماعي، وممثلي جامعة غريان، ومنظمات المجتمع المدني، والأعيان المحليين، وقيادات نسائية، وجهات معنية من مختلف القطاعات. أجرينا نقاشًا مفتوحًا وبنّاءً حول الفرص والتحديات التي تواجه غريان والبلديات المحيطة بها، وكيف يمكن للاتحاد الأوروبي مواصلة دعم جهود التنمية المحلية. أكدتُ مجددًا التزام الاتحاد الأوروبي بالعمل بالشراكة مع السلطات الوطنية والمحلية، والمجتمع المدني، والأوساط الأكاديمية لتعزيز التنمية الشاملة، ودعم الحوكمة المحلية، وخلق فرص تُحسّن حياة الناس اليومية. انا وفريقي ممتنون كثيرا لكرم الضيافة الذي حظينا به طوال زيارتنا. وسررنا خاصة بفرصة استكشاف تراث غريان العريق، وبيوت الداموس التقليدية، وزيارة ورشة عمل تُبرز تقاليدها العريقة في صناعة الفخار، وبالطبع، الاستمتاع بتناول البازن اللذيذ.

It was a real pleasure to visit the city of Gharian and meet with Mayor Nasser Borshan, members of the Municipal and Social Councils, representatives of the University of Gharian, civil society organisations, local dignitaries, women leaders, and stakeholders from across a wide range of sectors. We had an open and constructive discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing Gharian and the surrounding municipalities, as well as on how the European Union can continue to support locally led development efforts. I reaffirmed the #EU’s commitment to working in partnership with national and local authorities, civil society, and academia to promote inclusive development, strengthen local governance, and create opportunities that improve people’s daily lives. My team and I are deeply grateful for the warm hospitality we received throughout our visit. We particularly appreciated the opportunity to discover Gharian’s remarkable heritage, like the underground houses, and to visit a workshop showcasing its renowned pottery tradition, and, of course, to enjoy some delicious bazin.

خلال الشهر الماضي، زارت بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي، بالتعاون مع شركائنا في الأمم المتحدة، مدينتي نالوت وغدامس، وهما مدينتان تاريخيتان رائعتان ألهمتنا صمودهما وتراثهما وروحهما المجتمعية بعمق. سلطت مناقشاتنا مع القادة المحليين والمجموعات النسائية والشباب والمجتمع المدني الضوء على الأثر الملموس لتعاون #الاتحاد_الأوروبي و #الأمم_المتحدة مع السلطات المحلية والوطنية في ترميم المواقع الثقافية، وتحسين الخدمات العامة، ودعم ريادة الأعمال المحلية. إن تعزيز الشراكات وحماية التراث يعنيان الحفاظ على الأمل وصون وعد بغد أفضل لجميع الليبيين. يظل الاتحاد الأوروبي ملتزمًا بالعمل مع السلطات والمجتمعات الليبية والشركاء الدوليين لتحويل هذا الوعد إلى مستقبل سلمي ومزدهر في جميع أنحاء البلاد.

Today we hosted a new edition of the #EU Delegation’s Media Freedom Talks, dedicated to the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation. Together with a group of outstanding Libyan journalists, fact-checkers and media professionals, we discussed how access to reliable information is essential for the exercise of democratic rights and for fostering participation. Fact-based, professional journalism, supported by a safe and enabling reporting environment, is crucial to advancing the Libyan political process towards free and fair national elections. The message was clear: media freedom is a crucial safeguard for accountability, public trust and long-term stability. Independent journalism helps counter hate speech, prevents manipulation, and offers citizens the tools to make informed choices about their future. We explored how the EU can help strengthen Libya’s media landscape through capacity-building and by supporting key media actors and institutions. – at Libya
