But, ioreg only contains the US English version of the Marketing Model Name (as far as I know, I haven't checked on models sold in other countries). To get the properly localized version, extracting those strings you found in the System Information app bundle may be the only way.

IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE UPDATING TO CATALINA: Because of how the new Podcasts and Books apps handle their media files in macOS 10.15 Catalina, I would recommend using TuneSpan to restore all Podcasts and Audiobooks to the default iTunes Media folder BEFORE updating to Catalina.

TuneSpan & Catalina (4/4): Regretfully, it appears the new Podcasts app is unable to find spanned Podcasts on its own. When you play a spanned Podcast, you will be prompted to locate it manually. In this dialog, you will be able to navigate to your Span Location to play the file.

TuneSpan & Catalina (3/4): Spanned Audiobooks will be copied to the new Books app storage location at “~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books/Audiobooks/” on internal drive. Spanned copies of these files will be left behind in the Span Location.

TuneSpan & Catalina (2/4): Spanned Music, Movies, and TV Shows will be properly migrated to the new Music and TV apps. This means that the files will stay right where they are in their spanned locations and the new apps will play them properly.

TuneSpan & Catalina (1/4): TuneSpan WILL NOT support with the new media apps. While future functionality may be possible for the new Music and TV apps, it isn’t possible for Podcasts or Books. Unfortunately I’m not yet certain if I’ll be updating TuneSpan to support Catalina.
Pretty certain that when I upgraded from my test Mojave installation to Catalina beta 1 that my Media Folder in Music was set to “/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/“ which is why I messed around with that setting. No idea what the state of the plist was at that point though.
I was thinking about someone actually having multiple Music libraries (like with PowerTunes). I haven’t tested that in Catalina at all. There will be a lot of complexity to deal with either way. Also, whoops on switching accounts that I’m replying on!
Maybe true, Music and TV would have to store any other location somewhere. But it could be storing custom locations in the actual library files. Curious how this preference would be set when switching between libraries with different media locations. Hopefully Apple just fixes it
Dang, that’s annoying. Yeah, I did mess around with changing the Media Folder location in Music when I first installed Catalina. At least it should exist if someone has changed it. But maybe that won’t apply if a custom setting was imported from iTunes when upgrading to Catalina.

macOS also already has JavaScript for Automation which has a built-in Objective-C bridge and can be compiled into apps just like AppleScript. It’s quite cool even though documentation is sparse and Apple has seemingly forgotten about it since releasing it. developer.apple.com/library/…

While something may change in a future update, or there may be some new or different way to read the contents of these libraries in the way that TuneSpan needs, the first impression is not looking good for TuneSpan to be able to easily support these new Music and Apple TV apps.

Although Music and Apple TV apps support AppleScript in macOS 10.15 Catalina, neither appear to include or have an option for an XML library file for 3rd party apps (such as TuneSpan) to be able to read the contents of their respective libraries.

After very initial testing in macOS 10.15 Catalina, it appears the new Music app and Apple TV app support the same AppleScript functionality that iTunes did (which is truly awesome!). But, the Podcasts app doesn’t support AppleScript. But, there is bad news for TuneSpan support…
