Always stick to what makes you weird, odd, strange, different. That’s your source of power.

As Nietzsche wrote, “The value of a thing sometimes lies not in what one attains with it, but in what one pays for it—what it costs us.”
Perhaps you will attain your goal, and a worthy goal at that, but at what price?
Apply this standard to everything, including whether to collaborate with other people or come to their aid.
In the end, life is short, opportunities are few, and you have only so much energy to draw on. A
nd in this sense time is as important a consideration as any other.
Never waste valuable time, or mental peace of mind, on the affairs of others—that is too high a price to pay.

What matters is not education or money, but your persistence and the intensity of your desire to learn; that failures, mistakes, and conflicts are often the best education of all; and how true creativity and mastery emerge from all this.

repost from KTLA's @LuParker: 14 years ago, I interviewed an up & coming hip-hop artist named Kendrick Lamar. We met in Compton at his studio and talked music, family, gangs, and his passion for writing & performing. He was intelligent & gracious. Kendrick's album Good Kid, M.A.D.D City was released months later. The footage in our story was literally Kendrick free-styling on the mic for us.
His story is one of my favorites of my entire career. The then 23-year-old was just about to blow up into the megastar he is today with 20 Grammys under his belt and performing at this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
I've watched this story dozens of times over the years and nearly cry each time I see it because of the insight, bravery, and courage Kendrick brings to his poetic lyrics and vibe. I often think of all the young kids with talent who don't make it out of tough times & neighborhoods. We have to keep nurturing our youth… 🤍
Proud of you @kendricklamar 🎤
