Over the last years, recipients of the @EPFL_en Doctor Honoris Causa received a freeform lens that refracts light rays to form their portrait. The custom designed lens is computed based on an algorithm invented at GCM and perfected by @Rayform.

Yes exactly right, it’s just simple refraction and our algorithm that gives the necessary surface geometry. After which, it’s precision milled.
