🇺🇸South Carolina : A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF SIMPLY CANNOT STAND Now it’s time for Serious, Governing Republicans to rebuild the Conservative Coalition. —————————————- In modern electoral politics, when an incumbent political party controls the voter registration advantages, the legislative boundaries, and the baseline electorate, it almost never loses to the minority party on issues or policy alone. The reason they loose is when the party wages war against itself. If we are really being honest, that’s what happened here last night.. We are already seeing the predictable chatter rolled out today: point fingers at the “mood in Washington” , or claim "new transplants moved into the suburbs." and whatnot. But that math ain’t mathin’ All of the out of state voters moving into high growth areas in York, Dorchester, and the Upstate didn't ‘suddenly’ fall in love with the Democrat’s policies. What the numbers actually tell us is straightforward: when you look at the raw turnout surge across the state, Democrats mobilized in historic midterm numbers. In a high-turnout environment, you cannot afford division and infighting. Yet for two years, factional caucuses, fringe county party leaders, and a bitter primary loser (!)treated fellow Republicans as existential enemies. When Scorched Earth Primaries that spill over into general election boycotts, write-in campaigns, and endless ideological purity tests generally do fatal things to the electoral model: 1. Base Demoralization: They can shave critical points off your core turnout because everyday voters get disgusted by the circular firing squad and just stay home. 2. Suburban Flight: They push the everyday suburban voter who just want steady economic growth, infrastructure, and competent local leadership to run away from the chaos. And here we are . This is how you flip a U.S. Senate seat for the first time in nearly thirty years. That is how a previously safe suburban seat like House District 66 where I live flips blue. That is how historical double-digit deep red strongholds turn into squeakers. Meanwhile, in places where Republicans stayed disciplined and focused on delivering results , like holding the governing House Majority , we were able to hold the line . —Case Studies: When the House Divides: History shows this isn't an anomaly. When a majority party chooses factional score settling over governing, the math collapses EVERY TIME: 1. 1912 (The White House): The dominant Republican majority fractured when Teddy Roosevelt led a bitter third party challenge against William Howard Taft. They split over 50% of the national vote. Wilson won with just 41.8%. 2. 2012 (The Senate in MO & IN): Grassroots groups out there defeated electable candidates in Deep red territory to nominate factional candidates . General election swing voters just walked away , costing Republicans two safe seats and the U.S. Senate majority. ( When is winning really losing? 🤔) 3. 2021 (The Georgia Runoffs): Internal party factional feuds and boycott rhetoric convinced Republican voters their own leadership was corrupt. Base turnout dropped down & suburban margins bled out, and both seats flipped to Chuck Schumer's majority. A house divided against itself simply cannot stand. In every single case, the opposition didn't win by converting minds of voters; the majority just lit up its own house. You don't expand a majority by purging everyone who disagrees with you. You cannot burn down the house just to rule the ashes. Last night was the bill coming due for years years of self sabotage in our state.
