OK. lets talk real numbers. I haven't done a financial planning tweet in a while For those relatively new to me/my stuff I was a financial planner for nearly 11 years, so this is pretty easy. @NotFabTV I blame you for this. 30/hr is $1,200/week * 52 weeks (assuming you actually get paid for all of them) is $62,400. This is slightly higher than the annual average salary of a single person in the United States of $60,575. From this, you have bills. Groceries, Gas/Transportation, Rent, Car Insurance, Health Insurance, Clothing, TV (netflix/cable/hulu/hbo/blahblahblah), Internet, Gas and Electric for your place, saving for the future, and then "leisure/fun/entertainment". Everyone's mileage will vary depending on where you live and your laws and what the government covers, but I live in New York in the United States in the suburbs of a tier 3 city (tier 1 would be like NYC size, tier 2 would be like Buffalo size. Where I live is smaller, therefore lower standard of living costs on average, but not as low as living in the middle of nowhere or in a more rural/southern state). There are 4.33 weeks/month on average - so you make $5,196/month gross pay. The average rent for a 1br apartment where I live is approx. $1,110/month plus utilities. Then we have the rest of the bills (MONTHLY): Groceries - $430 Gas (depends on how much you drive obv) - $300 Health Insurance (average shit high ded plan) - $775 Car Insurance (lets say you drive a 2015 civic) - $100 Home utilities (gas/electric) - $250 Clothing - $100 (maybe you're not that into threads) Netflix etc - $100 And then there's taxes - 25% off the top: $1300 *****Of your $5,196 per month, you are left with $741/month or approximately $171/week.**** Of course if you're a streamer you would have significantly less gas usage, but your energy consumption goes UP by $200/month (ask me how I know). This DOES NOT include if you are someone that wants a decent car to drive (car payment), if you have student loans to pay off, if you want to take a date out to dinner once in a while, if you have a desire to buy video games on the regular, and I never made mention of saving anything for the future or renter's/homeowner's insurance. Of course there is the possibility of a tax return or you can manage to adjust the numbers to suit you better, but I live in an average town in an average cost of living area. My county's cost of living is rated an "88.6". The USA average is "100". Where I live is considered "significantly less than the US average". So no, this isn't "super out of touch". It's just math and understanding the costs of things. Like I said. People think $30/hr or $60k/year is a lot of money. it isn't.
