Check out @MinnPost's coverage of MSP-LTER researchers @RebHWalker, @HannahRamer2, @katederickson, and @BonnieKeeler's study on historical racial disparities in Minneapolis park development and access to #urbannature.

The Minneapolis park board historically partnered with real estate developers to build parks in neighborhoods with racial covenants, which legally prevented non-white people from buying or occupying the land. minnpost.com/race-health-equ… by @kian_ava

From 1910 to 1955, when covenants were used in Minneapolis, 73% of new park areas had at least one racial covenant within a block of the park.

Thanks to MinnPost for covering our recently published research on how racial segregation in Minneapolis shaped the city’s park system!

“This research shows that disparities in Minneapolis’ park system weren’t an accident — parks, race and real estate have always been deeply intertwined,” said @RebHWalker, an author of the study.

You may have heard that species like coyotes are territorial, but it can be hard to visualize what that means. This map shows GPS movements of 11 coyotes (each one a different color) that we've collared and tracked in the TCCFP since 2020, showing clear territory boundaries.

The Roof Depot is in @RepHassan and @IlhanMN’s district and neither have said anything about its impending demolition, or the arsenic plume that will be released into a 70% PoC neighborhood with the largest native-preference public housing development in the US!

RIGHT NOW: About 30 people are occupying the former Roof Depot site in East Phillips. They vow to stay until @CityMinneapolis abandons plans to expand a public works campus here. Demolition of the building, which would pave way for the city’s plans, could begin next week.

This zoning map (1920) shows how Mpls City gov *intentionally* put pollution in East Phillips. They zoned the majority of the neighborhood as industrial (red and blue), exposing low-income renters (orange) to pollution. The City created this envi racism and now is doubling down
