Cooper Kupp on routes on air with intent… You know what we used to call that? Deja Vu.. -Edelman. “Because once you know what’s coming, that’s when techniques and your superpowers get to come out” -Edelman “Unconscious competence.” -Sean McVay I’m sure some sports scientist somewhere has a problem with this line of thinking. I tend to side with elite athletes who are students of the game and put the work into understanding the game holistically when they articulate things. 🤷🏻

Young WRs should be paying attention to what @49ers vet WR Chris Conley is doing tonight. Main reason why former third-rounder is in his eighth season (with fifth different team) because of his willingness to embrace and excel on ST. Great lesson for those willing to take notice.

Kyle Shanahan was asked if Jauan Jennings was the most ferocious run-blocking WR he’s ever coached: “Probably. What he did driving that guy into the Gatorade is what he does every day at practice. Our defense tried to fight him last year because they thought he was going above and beyond.”

"Intelligence is essential for Wide Receivers. The more intelligent he is, the faster he can learn a Concept and we can put him anywhere on the field. What made Davante Adams so special was that his football intelligence was off the charts. We could move him around all over the place." - Nathaniel Hackett (current Jets OC)

Contrarily, wideouts we must be able to peripherally identify body language. See ball & man simultaneously. Staggered stance, weight forward = lunge/hard press.
Two hand jam is a tool CBs should have in their💰. I don’t recommend deploying it often, but flashing it in the right situation can be highly effective.

Be a BadAss Wide Receiver?: 1) Catch hundreds of balls daily and exaggerate the “ lookin” till the tuck away…Habit will hold up under pressure 2) Become a scientist of route running by devouring the film of the greats who’s body type and skill set resemble yours 3) Realize that “7 on 7” isn’t real football and QBs don’t have a year to wait for u to get open…Play fast in real football 4) Block…the only reason for not blocking is that u are selfish…Understand blocking is technique, leverage, wide base at contact, and effort/pride 5) Do your job with pride and don’t expect or beg to be recognized…Your job is to get open, catch the ball, turn up field, make a play, block, score…Don’t draw attention to yourself for simply doing your job 6) “Welker” everything…We named the discipline of a direct straight up the field move after Wes Welker years ago…At the end of a season “Welkering” will add 100’s of yards, wins, and championships 7) Never forget…Lots of guys run fast, can catch, can make plays, etc…But few can master the art of being a great receiver…Be different…Be one of the few who master the craft

Something Alec Pierce told me yesterday - Reggie Wayne is intentional about having his WRs work on their releases on run plays to figure out what might work later in a game. This was on a Phillip Lindsay run where Pierce beat press with a fantastic release ⬇️

Have a great opportunity to get your coaching career started, in a great place to live, with some great coaches, and a really talented WR Room. DM’s are open for anyone with interest.

The routes change, the breaks stay the same. Drills should mimic mechanics of what our body will be required to do during a full speed breakpoint.

If your wide receiver coach/trainer is teaching you to drag your toe when you are running routes, LEAVE! It’s annoying as hell watching the young athletes take 10 mins on their release or getting into their route. YOU DON’T HAVE ALL DAY!

Auburn WR Lean and Stack Competition Drill. WRs need to hold the line, fight to keep inside arm free, and give the QB room.

Attack leverage. Take the defender where you want him. #ItsAnArt
Cooper Kupp talks winning on the goal line fade: “Weave to” his leverage & jab to move him inside The mindset should be to attack what he’s protecting! If you don’t threaten his leverage you’re not going to move him. Create space for the QB to deliver the throw where he wants!

One of my favorite drills I’ve learned from one of the best WR coaches @coachjstepp “Stripe-It” Drill Great drill to have in your 🧰 as a WR coach. Easy to apply to 🔝 part of routes. Move the DBs 👀 Listen below ⬇️
