The United cycle is now at the demand for a glamorous tyrant - Conte - to show these players what real work looks like. That'll be followed in 18 months by a giddy interim spell by an earnest club legend - Johnny Evans - and then by an Ineos-coded ideologue with good hair - Howe.

The reality with any sanctions applied to Man City by the Commission is that unless they mitigate for the enormous, 10+ year Etihad & Puma sponsorships, then Man City can readily bounce back to financially dominate once they return to the PL. Cash simply isn’t an issue for their owners, so they could literally buy a brand-new billion-pound squad in the summer before their return. It doesn’t matter how long they’re out of the PL if their AD sponsorships sustain My gut is that the Commission’s sanctions might mitigate amassed squad value (because it was built through declared cheating) but WON’T mitigate the recent sponsorship deals because they were either deemed independently commercial (Puma*) or were entered into under the APT rule regime (Etihad’s latest deal was sanctioned in a settlement with the PL late 2025). And this is why I think the PL hasn’t charged them with the extra 100+ breaches for seasons 2018/19-2024/25 yet. The PL is now (as of this season) empowered to settle PSR/SCR-related cases instead of having to refer the matter to an Independent Commission. As such, they could propose a deal to Man City whereby if the UAE sells the club to a truly commercial third party, they’ll let them keep much of the sponsorship for SCR purposes, to help them be competitive and allow the club to prosper moving forward. But if the UAE refuses, then they’ll pursue full sanctions for 2018/19-2024/25, including the voiding of all APTs entered into in bad faith with false submissions. Such an outcome could permanently end Man City’s prospects as a Premier League club. The Premier League have City by the balls here and I congratulate them for their brilliant strategy. (*I don’t believe the Puma deal was arm’s length. But have no proof of this. Just an opinion.)

⚠️This is a VERY important distinction to be made: 🔺1. City is arguing that the sponsorship deals weren’t sham contracts. If they are successful — the Disciplinary Committee has made it very clear that they still will be found guilty of 114 breaches, see below. The Disciplinary Commission found that if it was wrong about the sham contracts, they were still related party transactions. As such they should have been recorded at Fair Market Value (FMV) — which according to the commission placed them “very substantially below” what was reported and led to breaching PSR and UEFA’s in all of the relevant seasons. 🔺2. Could City be successful? I predicted the outcome of this case very well several years ago. I can safely say that from the perspective of the independent Disciplinary Committee — it is an irrelevant technicality. The rule is that only real revenue can be treated as revenue. In this case it’s fake revenue regardless if it’s given directly by the owner or by someone under the control of the owner. The grounds City are arguing would perhaps reduce the ~£900m figure to ~£600m — but it’s of course indisputable that the £900m figure comes with an asterisk to start with. These AD sponsors de facto sponsored City, it’s not like City’s sponsors would have paid them zero pounds. What is relevant is the benefit gained by cheating — and it’s the same in both cases. The difference between FMV and what City received. 🔺3. What is City playing at? What has not been emphasized enough is how City’s absurd and blatant stalling tactics de facto have delayed the decision we received a few weeks ago with three years — three years! It should not have come in September 2026, it should have come in September 2023 (if City didn’t tie up the PL for 3 years in public courts claiming that the appointed arbitrators were not impartial, on absurd grounds). The tactic to drown the PL and the Committee with nonsense documents in a form that couldn’t be downloaded or copied provably delayed the case an additional year. So we should have had the decision in September 2022. This is down to three persons, Kahldon, Pearce and Soriano. They make the decisions, they are responsible for the cheating — and they will surely be banned from ever coming close to a football club again. 🔺4. So what will happen now? Look — legal proceedings have a weakness. They are not safe since they can be delayed. This is why any solicitor that purposefully delay a proceeding more or less would be guaranteed to be struck off the roll. But it doesn’t matter much — because it’s more or less impossible to prove bad faith. City can still find ways to delay this process every step of the way. For example — the Judicial Panel appoints the Appeal Board. City can object that each of the members on it are impartial on whatever far fetched grounds. The Chair of the Judicial Panel then decides if they have a valid claim. BUT — if City does not agree with the Chair’s decision, they can take it to the public courts. And you get another 1 year delay.
Manchester City’s claim to have “irrefutable evidence” that will overturn their guilty verdict on appeal is based on a trove of emails, letters and bank statements. A re-examination of Abu Dhabi government documents, receipts and testimony from 24 witnesses – all of which the club believe were wrongly dismissed at the original hearing – will be central in attempts to force a full or partial acquittal or retrial, according to people familiar with the case. @Tom_Morgs breaks down City's 'irrefutable evidence' ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/football/202…

Lisandro Martinez’s view that Michael Carrick has been sold short and the squad has not been equipped with the depth to fight on multiple fronts is shared by several senior players - and football staff. It has been discussed in the dressing room with the club aware of frustrations around recruitment. There was a fear ahead of the campaign that the squad would not be strengthened properly - the lack of cover at left-back and striker were major concerns, which is evidenced in how much the need for reinforcements was stressed during pre-season interviews. Told the driving reason behind Martinez’s airing these grievances publicly is fury that Carrick is likely going to lose his job despite not being given the tools to have a fair crack, and players are sick of reset after reset, without questions asked of the people in charge and what direction they’re taking the club in. Carrick and the team have faced criticism, accepted it, and owned up to performances being nowhere near good enough. Where is the accountability from the people who keep leading the club to one doom spiral after another?

I promise you, if Man United got that Qatar owner in 23' and they started cooking the books to this scale to win 6 out of 7 PLs, win the CL, multiple domestic trophies... No rival fan would be saying 'it's just an owner trying to get his money in'. Give me a fucking break.

Poor - and biased - response from Andy Burnham on Manchester City being found guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules by an Independent Commission. He says “I can’t intervene *more* in the process,” which requires an explanation in itself. Then offers commentary on previous proceedings he felt was unfair, AND states he wouldn’t want to lose the club’s owners who have “been such a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester. Obviously, the building of Manchester City into the global force that it is.” How was that force built? And on the investment into the city itself, per a 2022 Guardian report: “Nine sites were sold to Sheikh Mansour at a fraction of their value, and well below what other plots nearby fetched. They were on leases lasting 999 years, well beyond the norm. And the fund shifted what had been public assets to companies registered in Jersey. “That walk along the water from New Islington into Ancoats now passes blocks of privatised land owned in an offshore tax haven, which yields millions upon millions for a key member of the wealthy elite running a surveillance state halfway across the globe. One of the greatest cities in the world has sold itself to a senior figure in a brutal autocracy – and not even for a good price.”

Newcastle are a great example for why FFP is so important. Same owners started LIV golf, let it run for a couple years and are already abandoning it. If they pumped Newcastle full of money and dipped just like they did LIV, Toon would be looking down the barrel of administration.
