I explain inflation through demand-pull, conflict theory, cost-push mechanisms, structural bottlenecks, markup pricing, and endogenous feedback dynamics. MV=PY is an accounting identity with no independent explanatory power.

I've noticed Austrian economists have an extremely high "time preference" for being wrong immediately rather than being correct eventually.

We're told about the opportunity cost of increasing public spending. Let's also discuss the cost of NOT spending: Unmet care needs. Jobs not created. Wildfires not prevented. Wasted productive capacity. Deficit reduction can have costs too.

Robert Lucas probably did more to set macroeconomics back than any other economist of the twentieth century.

Beneficios privados, riesgos colectivos

To be clear, MV=PY is an accounting identity when velocity is defined as nominal GDP divided by the money stock. It tells us that MV=PY because V=PY/M. Without additional behavioral assumptions about velocity, real output, and monetary dynamics, the equation has no independent explanatory power regarding the causes of inflation.

A more honest and effective way to begin an answer to the “pay for” question.
Money is created when government spends. Money is not the problem. The question is what we do with money and for whose benefit. Let's start with renewable energy, insulated homes, rent controls and council houses? Their economics has delivered poverty and billionaires. Enough!

Studies show libertarians suffer from mental health issues at significantly higher rates than the control group. The control group consisted of people who have never read Ayn Rand.

If technology allows us to produce more with less labor, why should the alternatives be unemployment or precarious work? We can discuss shorter working hours, lifelong learning, income security and a #JobGuarantee. Algorithms do not decide the future of work. We do.

Replying to @cazadordedatos

An economy's greatest waste does not always appear in public budgets. It appears in people who want to work but cannot find a job. Wasted talent. Lost production. Insecure lives. Unemployment has a cost too. And it is enormous. #JobGuarantee

We can balance the public budget while unemployment, insecurity and unmet social needs persist. Impeccable accounting. An unbalanced society. Galbraith reminds us that fiscal balance does not guarantee social balance
