Hello #yyc. We've created a complete street vision for the 17th Ave 'Red Mile' that we're hoping #yyccc will adopt however this is also about starting a conversation about what's possible for the corridor. Let us know what your ideas are for #redmileyyc

And yet instead of working to solve these serious issues, Councillor McLean and his @commfirstyyc pals are focusing their time and energy on battling 10 year old bike lanes downtown. Calgarians should elect serious people willing to tackle the serious issues, not BikeLane McLean
Alberta has a bigger measles outbreak than the entire US, a growing homeless population battling addiction & mental illness + over-crowded schools & hospitals. All of those are provincial jurisdictions which is why @Alberta_UCP wants everyone focused on municipal bike lane issues
LATEST. UPDATE. These guys are serious. 'Everything on the table' — Smith government could remove some Calgary bike lanes calgaryherald.com/opinion/co… via @calgaryherald #yyc #yyccc #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #Alberta
This is an exciting announcement & a great investment in our city by @Trumanhomes. Now is the time for #yyccc to give 1st St SE a main-streets makeover that includes #yycbike infrastructure & a better public realm to improve access to downtown & the rivers for these hotel guests
So @LiveWire_DK reports that the new Event Centre will have 340 toilets and this will help avoid the issues seen up in Edmonton with Roger's Place. Only problem is this Global piece says Roger's Place has 485 toilets. A design fail in the making? #yyccc

Folks in the #yycbike community know the answer... bike lanes reduce congestion and boost area businesses. If only the folks on #yyccc worked to solve Calgary's traffic woes based on facts instead of snappy soundbites.

It's exciting to see work beginning on this but anyone who has been to MNP recently knows the parking lot is often jammed with cars. The launch of the expansion means #yyccc should also launch construction on the 1 St SE #yycbike cycletrack to boost access

A few years ago we pitched a similar idea to the @cityofcalgary downtown strategy team. They were enthusiastic about the concept & started working internally to get it done. Happy to see the idea pay off with the launch of RiverHall. Perfect location for #yycwalk & #yycbike folks
Important to note as #yyccc looks to expand our 5A network. The emergency response line is one that opponents love to bust out, especially for roads downtown.
#yycbike
No, road diets don't slow emergency responders.
That's the conclusion of this new study from Iowa, which found "no difference in emergency response" before and after road diet implementation.

Calgary's rivers are our crown jewel and deserve investment that reflects that. Can't wait for the day @cityofcalgary, @YYCTKW & #yyccc find funding to launch construction of Riverwalk West & the 10 St Surf Wave which will take the Bow to the next level.

So @cityofcalgary is going to ban scooters from a 4 block stretch of @17thavesw & instead force users to park in corrals on the side streets & walk but apparently applying the exact same principle to cars is an outrageous idea that will destroy area businesses 🙄

"Our businesses would be ruined if we tried that here... Lilac Fest, Stephen Ave and success in other cities don't count" - Almost every business when #yyccc floats the idea to pedestrianize a mainstreet.

We often hear the same story here in #yyc when advocating for further expansion of the successful #yycbike network. It would be helpful if @cityofcalgary did some intercept studies for its main streets so all stakeholders could have a common set of facts to start conversations
Half of business owners on this #Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car. In fact, it was 4%. And the % for those who walked or cycled? 72%.

Would love to see this sculpture complement @CalgaryMLC's Wheel of Women that already exists in East Village along the river walk. Link the two circles plus the bridge and the river would make a great backdrop to people sitting in that empty chair. #yyc

Happy to see this initiative being taken on by the community. Open streets are being launched by cities around North America and are proving to be a hit with residents, businesses, and tourists. We're sure the #yycbike & #yycwalk folks will be happy to provide some survey input.
🚀 We’re launching community and business engagement surveys to help reimagine 17th Avenue and inform pilots for open streets in Summer 2025.

Come on #yycbike and @yycbeltline. Let's show a cycle track on 1st St SE some love!! It was in the original cycle track network plan before it was removed. We are beyond overdue for getting a safe 5A link connecting the Bow & Elbow Rivers through the commercial core and Beltline.
How could we improve wheeling access to the MNP Community & Sport Centre?

Really great to see that @cityofcalgary has now included additional #yycbike racks as part of the on-street infrastructure to accommodate this summer's pop up patio program. One of the best things to come out of Covid and keeps getting better each year.
Okay #yycbike, the last question on this survey asks about the need for a 1 St SE regional cycling connection. This is our opportunity to make it clear that this is something beneficial to the greater downtown communities and all Calgarians who want a safe 5A wheeling network
Phase 2 of Engagement for the MNP Access Strategy has commenced as of May 17, 2024.
This project aims to explore improvements to area walking, wheeling + transit connections to the MNP Community & Sport Centre.
