It was great to read the highly complimentary review of our main production, Cloudstreet, by the representative from National School Theatre Awards who attended the performance. It's a richly layered and technically demanding play which tells the story of two families, the Pickles and the Lambs, who live in a single house in post-war Perth, Australia. Some of the comments included: '...this production was expertly crafted from beginning to end with remarkable acting performances' 'What emerged onstage was not merely a school production, but a fully realised piece of theatre, thoughtful in its concept, confident in its execution, and rich in emotional detail' 'The set design was also highly effective; a particularly striking choice was the inclusion of a functioning onstage swimming pool' Four students have been nominated for awards and will attend the ceremony in January 2026 - we've got our fingers crossed for you all! 🤞 #dramaperformance #schooldrama #cloudstreet #nationalschooltheatreawards

#ThrowbackThursday to our Autumn Concert held at St Martin of Tours Church last week. It was a joyful celebration of the energy and ambition that sit at the heart of music-making at Reed’s. The Orchestra joined forces with the Corps of Drums to open the event with a gripping performance of Holst’s Mars. This was equalled with incredible soloists who, in turn, brought poised performances on the oboe, violin, trumpet and clarinet on pieces by composers such as Mozart, Hummel and Vivaldi. Schola Cantorum then offered a moment of stillness with Clive Osgood’s beautiful composition, 'His word shall stand forever'. After an atmospheric rendition of Sakamoto’s Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a flute solo of Rodrigo’s Fantasía provided an elegant and lyrical interlude. The evening gathered further momentum with the stirring Echoes of Valour composed by U6th student Sam O before the Orchestra, Schola Cantorum and the Ripley Court Singers joined together for a spectacular finale of Mike Oldfield’s Incantations, bringing the concert to a powerful and uplifting close. #creativity #grippingperformance #atmosphericmusic

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas....🎁 Especially for the pupils who very kindly filled and brought in an incredible 100 shoeboxes for the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Appeal. They will be sent to children in need across the world; it was genuinely moving to see the care and creativity that went into every single box. What a wonderful testament to the compassion and generosity within our school - our founder, Rev Andrew Reed, would be very proud! #compassion #samaritanspurse #samaritanspurseshoeboxes #christmasgiving

A group of Lower Sixth students visited Oxford University to consider their uni application options. They were delighted to be shown round by Old Reedonian, Daphne Morris, who is a current undergrad there. She answered questions about life at the university and the application process, giving candid and detailed answers. After lunch the students took part in a Scavenger Hunt across the city - despite the damp conditions the group took part with gusto and thoroughly enjoyed the day! From January our Crucible Club is open to any L6 student who would like to explore the possibility of an Oxbridge university application. #oxforduniversity #oxforduni #Oxbridge

As we honour courage and sacrifice at Remembrance, our students heard the extraordinary story of one man who risked everything for his country. Former diplomat and author, Mr Tim Willasey-Wilsey CMG, visited Reed’s to share the history behind his new book, The Spy and the Devil. It tells the true story of Bill de Ropp, an MI6 agent operating inside Nazi Germany in the 1930s, who befriended senior Nazi officials, even meeting Hitler, to provide vital intelligence as war approached. Mr Willasey-Wilsey began with a workshop for Sixth Form English students, revealing his journey from diplomat to first-time author and the 30 months of research behind the book. Later, he captivated parents, staff, and pupils with tales of espionage, courage, and moral complexity. A powerful and thought-provoking visit, reminding us all of the unseen bravery and the sacrifices of those who serve their countries. #AuthorVisit #MI6 #RemembranceWeek #thespyandthedevil

Sixth Form Business & Design Technology students were able to get a deeper understanding of modern manufacturing process during a visit to the MINI factory in Oxford. They learnt about the balance between human skill and robotic precision in the production lines - automation providing consistency and speed, humans ensuring flexibility and quality. This integration of labour and technology perfectly illustrated how a business can combine efficiency with craftsmanship to achieve the best results. The trip gave students a real appreciation for the complex processes and dedication that goes into making one of the world’s most iconic cars. #bmwmini #carautomation #efficiency #craftmanship

A range of activities that are key for earning basic and 1-star Cadet awards were covered on the recent Fourth Form CCF exercise. On day 1 at Bradshott Common, a military training site on the A3 they participated in a round robin of activities such as first aid, navigation, and camouflage & concealment. Fieldcraft activities introduces the boys to a variety of new skills essential for the army cadet syllabus – importantly learning how to work together as a section and understand how to communicate effectively. On day 2 they focused on paintball and weapon-handling drills. During the paintball session, they learned about fire and manoeuvre tactics, the importance of communication, and how to work effectively as a team. Overall, an unforgettable experience! #CCF #CCF2025 #firstaidtraining #navigation #fieldcraft #armycadets

Fourth Form Enterprise pupils took part in an Enterprise for Good Day - crafting a set of new business ideas around the idea of community and ethical business practice. The aim was to develop socially conscious businesses capable of not only returning profits, but giving back to society in general. Ideas ranged from recycling plastic wastage into craft crates to healthy snack options and golf ball recycling. Groups worked through the complexities of business start-ups by compiling business plans which included financial forecasts, marketing plans, and operations. The runner-up group offered personalised clothing centred around school branding, and the winning group offered digital tutoring services for students with learning challenges. #enterpriseforgood #Enterprise #ethicalbusinesspractices

The #activityoftheweek this week is Lunchtime Club with Nellie, our gorgeous therapy dog! This club provides a nurturing space designed to support emotional development, build confidence, and foster social connections across year groups. Pupils are helped to overcome fears through safe interaction with Nellie. They can also learn about communication and social cues (canine and human) helping them understand concepts like empathy, boundaries, and emotional regulation. Nellie loves learning new tricks for treats, promoting the principle of positive reinforcement, and being taken on walks allowing pupils to be responsibile and assess risk. This club is a joyful and enriching experience that supports emotional wellbeing, social development, and life skills - all wrapped up in the wag of a tail! #therapydog #Nellie #cockerpoo #nuturing #andrewreedaward
