The family of a young Evertonian diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disorder a week before his first birthday are celebrating following life-saving stem-cell treatment. Ronnie, now 18-months old, touched the hearts of everyone across the city at the Merseyside derby in April when the Club first highlighted his fight with aplastic anaemia, a rare condition where the bone marrow cannot make enough new blood cells for the body to function normally. Ronnie’s emotional mum, Laura, explained “He was discharged after ringing the bell on 4 September - and obviously he had to have his Everton kit on for that day – but we’re still in isolation until next year because Ronnie is still a high-risk, vulnerable person. “But the doctors are just amazed how well he's handled it and we’ve since managed four weeks at home, which is the first we've had at home for that long since this all started in February."
