Society’s obsession with forgiveness is one of the biggest contributors to abuse of all forms. Somehow the victim is gaslit into forgiving someone who wronged them but the same energy is never had for the actual abuser/perpetrator.

When I do something bad, I don’t expect to be forgiven because I have apologized. In apologizing you should know that it doesn’t guarantee forgiveness and most importantly forgiveness isn’t forgetting.

I’ve said it several times before, but just because someone apologizes for racist rhetoric doesn’t mean the affected party has to forgive them. And if you’ve truly grown, you would acknowledge & own that it’s something you’ll have to apologize for many times over….
