Doug Burgum’s Interior Department just exempted winter oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve from environmental review. This could mean seismic surveys, new roads, and exploratory wells, all fast-tracked without any public input. bit.ly/4dJLE2A

This is the kind of information we must continue to share and remind each other about ... what unelected extremists do to move their own agenda, defying systems to protect Americans from corruption.
Pete Hegseth just gutted the system troops use to report wrongdoing. The military’s Inspector General is how a service member safely reports fraud, abuse, a dangerous commander, or a sexual assault, often anonymously, without fear of retaliation. Hegseth’s overhaul strips that anonymity, lets “non-credible” complaints get tossed, and flags anyone who files too often. He calls the old system “weaponized," yet offered no evidence. A junior enlisted troop who sees something wrong just lost their safest way to say so. That doesn't protect the force. It protects the people at the top. military.com/pete-hegseth-an…

Doors in the morning, the Capitol in the afternoon. I heard the same thing in both places: the people making decisions in Washington should have to answer to the people living with the consequences. No one is above the law, and no one is beneath it. Thanks to everyone who showed up for No Kings. Don't forget to show up on November 3rd, too. 15 days to go.

An absolutely brutal supercut for Trump. On February 1, 2023: "If I were president, I'd be able to negotiate an end to this horrible and rapidly escalating war in 24 hours" Today: "I think it's time for somebody else to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine"

A new VA report has a shocking revelation: more than half of all VA medical centers are now reporting severe staffing shortages. 97% of facilities can't fully staff their doctors, and 58% can't hire enough psychologists. This didn't happen in a vacuum. The Trump administration has cut roughly 30,000 VA jobs. Now, Veterans are paying the price. @RepVindman

There is one simple thing Congress can do to make gas, groceries, housing, and healthcare more affordable. It wouldn't cost a single penny. It would decrease spending and increase revenue without increasing anyone's taxes. It would directly improve the lives of 40 million Americans and improve the economy for everyone else. Why doesn't Congress do it? Because giant, wealthy corporations that spend billions on elections, lobbying, and influencing the public don't want to lose their nice taxpayer subsidies. That one thing is raising the federal minimum wage. In 1968, the buying power of the federal minimum wage peaked at a level where one full-time minimum-wage job was enough to keep a family of three out of poverty. Today, it has fallen to a level that is a poverty wage for a single adult in any state in the nation. Raising the federal minimum wage to $20 an hour by 2030 would reduce federal spending by $100 billion each year and increase revenue by almost $70 billion. It would cause 40 million Americans to get a raise, with the average being $8,000. And it would have a negligible effect on jobs and prices. We've seen this play out with minimum wage increases around the country for decades. We've seen it in action when the minimum wage peaked, and not only was the economy robust, with an unemployment rate lower than today, but the middle class was the strongest it has ever been. Despite decades of real-world data, numerous studies, and a history showing it works, many who read this still won't believe it. Because corporations have spent the last 50 years spreading propaganda that raising the minimum wage somehow hurts you, so they can keep making record profits while paying their workers so little that they have to rely on assistance programs to survive. It is time to raise the federal minimum wage.

President Donald Trump and his allies inside and outside his administration are aiming to blanket polling places with an expanding network of party and federal election monitors this November, intensifying scrutiny of the nuts and bolts of voting as Trump hunts for what he claims, without evidence, is widespread cheating and fraud in US elections. cnn.it/4xQGBo9

The White House media ban reminds me of the Teddy Roosevelt quote: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Haunting. Horrible. I was trying to tell my class about the attacks yesterday, and I had trouble getting through it. There was just so much suffering, confusion, and pain.
The rubble at the scene of the World Trade Center collapse is filled with the sounds of “PASS devices,” or emergency signals attached to firefighters when they are no longer moving. The scale of overlapping PASS alarms bespeaks the horrible death toll that must have taken place here. Yet worse - the alarms can’t be stopped because the bodies haven’t been found.

The arguments against raising minimum wage are always focused on the harm it would do (despite research) to the employer. Unsustainable.
The federal minimum wage has been stuck at a paltry $7.25 an hour since 2009. Guess how much the wage would be today if it kept up with worker productivity over the years?
