Almost 5.2 Million Americans lost SNAP since Trump and GOP Republicans passed the Big Ugly Law. And to make matters worse, there are even more hurdles for eligible people to receive SNAP benefits.
But my Democratic colleagues and I refuse to stop fighting for the American people. We intend on restoring SNAP, reducing hurdles, and doing whatever it takes to keep families and their children fed. And THAT’s A FACT!

The numbers don’t lie. Trump poses a direct threat to the Black community.
While every other demographic’s wealth increased in the last year, Black American households declined by 25%.
This administration keeps gutting programs that provide Black Americans fairer access to housing, jobs, education, and business opportunities.

#LA02 wins again! Congratulations to my alma mater @XULA1925 on receiving preliminary accreditation for the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine!
As the only HBCU Medical School in the Gulf South, this moment represents a milestone in bringing the nation more Black physicians, and providing the best in medical education right in our own backyard!
No one should live in fear of a partner, family member, or a loved one.
People facing food insecurity or financial loss are 6 times more likely to experience domestic violence.
People without stable housing experience partner violence 9 times more than people with housing.
And in Louisiana, 4 out of every 5 DV victims are women.
If you know someone is facing domestic abuse, don’t wait. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE or text “START” to 88788.
If you're in Louisiana, call the State Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-411-1333. The Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence provides shelter & legal resources for those in need.
It’s heartbreaking to see pantries across the country struggle to feed our families because of Trump’s USDA funding cuts. He promised to bring Americans more food and cut grocery bills.
Instead, he broke his promises to working families across the country — even disappointing the people that voted for him.

Shame on the Trump administration.
Their words today to state officials do nothing to build capacity or prepare places like Louisiana for future disasters. They are leaving states like mine out to dry — understaffed, underfunded, and under resourced — when disaster inevitably strikes.

Early voting begins tomorrow, October 20th, in Louisiana!
Let’s show up and SHOW OUT.
Bring 25 of your closest friends to the polls, and tell them to do the same!
If your voice didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to silence you.
If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying to steal it from you.
Let’s vote like the future of our children, family, seniors, democracy are on the line. Because THEY ARE.
There’s not enough waste, fraud, and abuse to justify canceling 750,000 people’s ACA healthcare plans.
You know what’s a WASTE? A president building a $600 Million Ballroom and spending $43.6 Billion on a war of choice.
You know who’s a FRAUD? A president with 34 felonies, snatching health care and food from children’s mouths to give billionaires tax breaks.
You know what’s ABUSE? A president cutting billions from Medicaid, SNAP, Affordable Housing, DEI, and Cancer Research.
That’s the only waste, fraud, and abuse I see.

Contrary to what our President and his ICE recruits seem to believe, no life is meaningless. Every human being assaulted or killed by ICE is someone’s child, sibling, parent, and they all still belong here with us.

Breast Cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S., but regular mammograms reduce breast cancer rates by 30%.
Early detection literally can save the life of a mother, wife, sister, friend, or loved one.
That’s why I am leading the State Offices of Women’s Health Support and Expansion Act, which will help expand access to mammograms by lowering costs for preventative screenings.
Let’s make sure no one loses their life on our watch.

Long Live the Spirit of the Million Man March
31 years ago, my 3 older brothers and I attended the Million Man March in Washington, DC. What a time to be alive — the unity, the brotherhood, and commitment of Black Men across the nation to improving our health, building wealth, and making a difference in our communities.
That single gathering led to nearly 1.7 million new Black voter registrations nationwide.
This year, we renewed that commitment to defend voting rights, economic freedom, and fair wages at the March on Washington.
On November 3rd, we will harness the same power, my brothers. Your vote matters. Your life matters.
April, what a story you have to tell! Your resilience, courage, and tenacity inspire us all to speak loudly and proudly for what’s right. You represent hope for generations of young, aspiring journalists and truth-tellers coming behind you.
Here’s the truth: It’s time to call out racism.
It’s time to call out an administration that disrespects our Constitution and undermines our democracy.
It’s time to say the silent part out loud.
Thank you to Dr. McIntyre for your dynamic leadership and facilitating a thought-provoking discussion with April. And thank you to Baldwin Co. Books for hosting us!
Shout out to the millions of Black Women, like @AprilDRyan And Dr. @ButlerMcintyre, bringing change to the world. ✊🏾
