South Africa's unacceptable levels of crime & violence have been hijacked by bad actors on both the right and left. Facts that honest commentators need to keep in mind 👇 1⃣ There is no white genocide. Violent crime disproportionately affects black South Africans.

Now that's a coincidence of note. 2 gay politicians on 2 different continents with exactly the same first name, the same Greek surname, and both members of a political party with Democratic in its name. #ChrisPappas
Democrat Chris Pappas thanked and embraced his husband, Vann Bentley, as he became the first openly gay man elected to the Senate.

Most people have access to paint. Most people are not Vincent van Gogh. AI is a tool. Your imagination, unique insights and ability to leverage that tool are what creates value.
Remember all the promises about AI? Almost every one of them was a lie. Here are the 11 biggest: 1. AI will create solo billionaire entrepreneurs. Lie. The smarter the models get, the less a product is worth, no matter how good the marketing is. Software is gradually becoming as ordinary as a cup of coffee from a coffee shop. And coffee shop owners don't become billionaires either. To get rich, you have to build something technically complex and unique. But AI models have strict filters that won't let you do any of that 2. People will make major scientific discoveries thanks to AI. Lie. AI labs will make scientific discoveries. For ordinary people, any serious scientific research is blocked by strict filters. Try discussing genetic engineering with Claude and you'll get your account banned right away 3. Engineers and programmers will be in higher demand as AI develops, because someone has to maintain it all. Lie. In two years, a software engineer will be on the same level as a barista selling coffee. The smarter the models get, the fewer people are needed to maintain systems. And this applies to more than just programmers 4. Thanks to AI, people will work less and rest more. Lie. If your employer used to expect five tasks a day from you, now they'll expect fifty. AI won't give you free time. It'll just raise the minimum bar for your productivity, especially when a large staff is no longer needed 5. AI will reduce economic inequality. Lie. The most powerful models require massive computing resources, capital, and infrastructure. The more important intelligence becomes to the economy, the more power goes to the handful of companies that control its production and distribution. We were promised democratization, and instead we got the groundwork for a new tech oligopoly 6. AI will let small companies compete with corporations. Lie. If one person with AI can build a product in a week, a corporation with a thousand employees and the same AI can build a thousand such products 7. AI will make us smarter. Lie. When people stop writing, analyzing, coding, and solving problems on their own, they risk gradually losing those skills. We're building the most powerful intellectual tool in history while gaining the option to completely stop training our own intelligence 8. AI will make technology accessible to everyone. Lie. You won't be given access to technology, but to rented intelligence. With limits, censorship, subscriptions, and rules that can change tomorrow. You control nothing 9. AI will give everyone a perfect education. Lie. We're already seeing serious degradation of human intelligence, of the education system, and of the need for a college degree. And nobody has yet figured out what to do with the hundreds of millions of students worldwide who, two years from now, will graduate with degrees nobody needs anymore. Intelligence has become free. Education is no longer needed 10. AI will kill advertising and pushy marketing. Lie. Advertisers used to buy a banner to influence your choice. Now they'll be able to pay your personal AI assistant, the one you trust more than your own wife. Advertising won't disappear. It'll become your best friend 11. AI will rid humanity of bureaucracy. Lie. One AI will draft the documents, a second will check them, a third will find violations, and a fourth will write appeals. Bureaucracy will finally be able to grow endlessly, without needing people at all

Never leaving this country.
And tik tok has added a track to it 🤣

To paraphrase James Talarico, the new Texas senator, the fight is not between right or left, black or white, it is between the top and the bottom. The top's control over big business, big government, and big media needs to be rolled back. Vote wisely.

After witnessing the latest atrocity to lurch from Fikile Mbalula's cooked brain, just to realise that 3.1M South Africans still follow him on X.

Good question. Lots of court cases looming while people suffer.
Please educate me: How exactly is this going to work? If the ANC or the GNU loses the local government elections but remains in national government, how will the parties that win municipalities deliver on their promises while national government still controls key institutions, funding and resources?

Lots of these anti-DA accounts making childishly false statements at the moment. A cursory look at the timeline usually reveals vapid bling ridden 'commentary'. Orchestrated campaign or just a bunch of tender-linked skebengas protecting their patch?
a DA run jhb is the worst thing you could have in recent history. You can go look at how cpt is and ask yourself if that's whats you want for your city

This @OpenSecretsZA report on South African media ownership is a must read if you are interested in media freedom (from bias). It is especially worrying that major media houses could be acting as mouthpieces for ANC factions. We all know about Itchy-ball Scurvy's Sekunjalo-PIC schlenter and Independent Media acting as a mouthpiece for Zuma and the Guptas. But Naspers also has close links to the ANC: - The state is the biggest shareholder in Naspers via PIC. - A close confidant of Cyril Ramaphosa now runs Naspers's SAn operations. opensecrets.org.za/investiga…

Replying to @NixPret
It's a bit bizarre that critics of Naspers tend to turn a blind eye to blatant apartheid-era corruption and ongoing collusion with oppressive regimes (via 2 seats on Tencent's board, which has an agreement with the CCP to surveill, censor and report online behaviour of Chinese citizens, including 1m Uighurs in Xinjiang concentration camps).

Sean is angry that he can't afford to rub shoulders with the wealthy residents of Constantia or Oranjezicht. Meanwhile the ANC-run governments of North West and Eastern Cape have been accused of widespread human rights abuses due to pervasive corruption and mismanagement. DA municipalities' spatial planning may be problematic, but inflating it over the litany of ANC crimes smacks of envy and resentment, not bona fide social justice activism. And don't lie Sean, the other options are much much worse. The whataboutery card doesn't play here.
The documentary film "Mother City" should be enough evidence to break through the media propaganda that no one in Cape Town, the Western Cape, Johannesburg, Tswane, or anywhere else can ever vote for the DA ever.

If you need an explanation for why most social media commentary is so cognitively challenged, Tim Cohen provides a good answer in today's FM newsletter. The number of [substantial] novels you read per year is a good indicator of your level of comprehension and the breadth of your reference framework.

Dodgy sources like @WorldPopReview state that the average SAn reads almost 7 books per year, which can't be true in a country with 47% functional illiteracy rate.

There's something mentally very off about this person. Imagine bragging about your expat parents moving from Malawi to South Africa during apartheid (obviously to benefit from pro-white policies), while pretending you are a progressive champ. 10-to-1 bet that Davis has never given up her British passport - you know just in case the 'blacks' get too restless. Pseudo-progressives are a pestilence on this earth.

Not excusing Israel's use of collective punishment today, but historically Palestinian stupidity and bloodlust really cost them a lot.

The fairness of the 1947 partition proposal is irrelevant. If you keep on getting your ass kicked, you will keep on losing land. Palestinians are like degenerate gamblers who think the next roll of the dice will bring the big win. Culture is destiny.
