What do researchers actually mean by “reproducibility”? 🔬
The term is often used loosely and that can create confusion.
Here’s a useful framework from Goodman, Fanelli & Ioannidis: 🧵
Why does this matter?
Because transparency allows researchers to evaluate the weight of evidence, identify weaknesses, reproduce analyses, and build better studies.
It also helps reduce problems caused by incomplete or selective reporting.
The goal isn't simply:
“Can someone reproduce my p-value?”
The bigger goal is:
Can other researchers understand, scrutinize, and build upon what I did?
