Patients at the Heart of the ESC Mission
At the ESC, Patient Forum Members are involved across the full range of our activities, engaging in one-to-one exchanges with key opinion leaders on topics like cardio-oncology, CVD in women, digital health, and many more!
Patients' voices have become an essential part of #ESCGuidelines, congresses, educational initiatives. The number of requests for patient involvement is steadily increasing, meaning our #ESCPatientForum needs to grow!
Know a patient who should be involved? Invite them to join the #ESCPatientForum bit.ly/48CYVZ1

NEW: The patient version of the 2025 ESC Clinical Consensus Statement on #MentalHealth and CVD has just been released.
❤️🧠 Heart and mental health are connected – and both need care:
- Mental health issues can worsen heart conditions – and vice versa
- Integrated care, with the Psycho-Cardio team, offers the best support
- Treatment can include medication, therapy, mindfulness, or a mix
- The ACTIVE principles guide personalised, stepped care
- Families and carers need support too

🔑 aspect of Francoise Steinbach about her ICD journey:
„To get support is key for the QoL of the patients pre and post ICD implantation!“
An important aspect we should keep in mind!

Today is #InternationalWomensDay!
Women’s hearts matter – it's time for equal representation in cardiac research. As Pisana Ferrari, #ESCPatientForum member, reminds us, closing the gap in research benefits both women patients and the doctors who care for them.
Let’s stand together for change. 💜❤️
Happy International Women’s Day!

Are patients comfortable with their physician using #AI? More than 90% say yes!
“What patients want from AI is patient-centred solutions based on our data that empowers us.” says #ESCPatientForum member Mattias Van Heetvelde
Other key messages from the patient perspective at #ESCSpringSummit:
Patients feel more at ease with a combination of physician and AI decision-making rather than either one acting alone. 👩⚕️
A majority of patients support the sharing of anonymous data, with some even creating their own platform – ‘Use MY Data’! 💡
Looking ahead, patients will be directly interacting with AI models, so let’s ensure they’re designed with the patient at the heart. ❤️

So powerful to hear voices of those with lived experience at our #ESCCongress sessions.
Optimal design of #clinicaltrials, healthcare #services, and #implementation strategies must include the voices of our patients.. sounds obvious, but often overlooked.
