Traveller next to me as we waited for the Miami Metromover was unimpressed at me correcting his assertion that we were waiting for a train when in fact it was an Automated People Mover.
How to win friends and influence them.
Solid if unspectacular. But that's probably what is needed in this role. I'm indifferent to his lack of railway experience. From the people who I've spoken to about working with him, he's a tough negotiator and sharp. If he can soak up Treasury scrutiny, that's a win imo

A move that's been on the cards for some time, though the phased introduction (early 2027-May 2028) still leaves the possibility of some going to East Midlands Railway on a short-term basis.
Taking some time off for a couple of weeks so I shall see you bright eyed, and bushy tailed at the end of October.
As Cilla would say, t'ra for now!

Northern will be introducing 37 refurbished class 350s onto it's network by early 2028 - replacing it's Class 323 in the process!
A £25 million refurbishment programme will be undertaken before entering service, which will include VRS and other passenger improvements expected

Can't say I'm surprised. Network Rail has consistently said there's insufficient capacity. Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway produced its own evidence, but ORR has ultimately decided there's no space for it or Lumo's Rochdale services. Not sure where either go from here.

WSMR's application to run direct trains to London from Wrexham via Shrewsbury has been rejected by the ORR, as has Lumo's application to run direct trains from Rochdale to London
Obviously, at this juncture, not clear as to why the train accelerated through either signal. That is to be determined, or at least, potential causes ruled out.
This interim report sets out, in part, what we already knew about the Bedford crash but in more detail.
The 810 suffered an AWS fault (the reason is not clear as to whether it was a train or signalling fault), and the driver of 360115 accelerated through a yellow and red signal.
We’ve published our interim report gov.uk/government/news/inter… following a collision between two passenger trains near Elstow, Bedfordshire, 19 June 2026.
This provides an update of our findings and the ongoing investigation.

ALT Two maroon liveried trains stand nose to tail having collided. The cab of the rearmost train is badly damaged, and the leading train has derailed to the left of the line. A signal gantry spanning the four running lines is visible in the distance. An embankment falls away to the right of the lines.
