The @FWF_at and my favorite Austrian radio station @oe1 do a series where they pair up scientists with business professionals to discuss timely topics. Proud to be part of the next installment airing on October 11th, 6:15PM. This was fun! 📻

I have been intrigued by the computational complexity of Clifford circuit synthesis since a fun project with @rbrtwll + team in 2023.
Our postdoc Luna Keller now found an elegant argument that settles it: optimal Clifford synthesis is NP-complete. Kudos!

At our QUICK Quantum Computing Group, we’ve adopted the sloth as our group mascot, a QUICK reminder that good things take time! 🦥
To celebrate International Sloth Day last week, we raised funds + donated to the Sloth Conservation Foundation. Great initiative by Marwa Marso!
(I/III) We're excited to announce a new tenure track opening! The position is called 'quantum informatics' and is affiliated with our QUICK group within the CS+AI division at Johannes Kepler University Linz 🇦🇹. Application deadline is November 30th, 2025: jku.at/en/the-jku/work-at-th…
(II/III) We're looking for young talent with a background in CS, math, EE or quantum physics and growth potential. Your future research focus should be in quantum CS, preferably with a connection to AI. More weight should be given to basic, rather than applied, research.
Replying to @RobertHuangHY
@RobertHuangHY, myself and @preskill identified quantum state learning tasks that look hard, but become easy if you jointly process 2 copies. I have long wondered whether such challenges exist for c>2 copies. Turns out yes, there is an infinite hierarchy: scirate.com/arxiv/2510.08070
Huge thanks to Viet Tran, Mariami Gachechiladze and MVP Jan Noeller for a productive and fun collaboration!
Plus, big shoutout to @sitanch, @gong_weiyuan and Qi Ye for developing elegant new frameworks for proving hardness of learning tasks which we managed to adapt to our needs.
🇦🇹🇭🇺Austro-Hungarian reunion: András Gilyén is probably one of the best quantum algorithm designers out there. He co-developed quantum SDPs, QSVT & Gibbs Sampling. No wonder he won an ERC Starting Grant ! Happy that he also decided to return to Europe, and proud to be his friend!
Last fall I taught two big classes on **computational complexity** (left selfie) and **quantum computing** (right selfie). Lecture notes are here: jku.at/fileadmin/gruppen/180…,

It was a lot of work, but now I am happy+proud to share them. 😊 Feedback welcome!

I'm going to give a talk @QuantumSpain_ES next week. Unfortunately, only remotely -- for now. :-)
Thanks @AlhambraAlvaro for making this possible. Hasta el proximo martes! 🇪🇸⚛️🇪🇸
New seminar coming up!
Join us for an enlightening session with @RichardKueng as he delves into "Classical Shadows in Theory, Numerics, and Experiment."
