Very funny that billionaires are like “I am leaving”. And Zucman’s response is “sorry no, my theory doesn’t allow this”

Imagine drafting a billionaire tax proposal so sloppy & awful that the California Teachers Association recommends voting no & begins offering technical assistance to help activists become less incoherent & dangerous
Economics argument that the proposed California billionaire tax would be net negative for revenue. As a political economy complement, note that the CA teachers union has decided to recommend voting "no" on the initiative. nber.org/papers/w35899#fromr…

Mass timber is a really promising new construction technology that I'm very excited about! (even wrote a whole report on it last year) So I'm very pleased to see this new bill get introduced in Congress that will accelerate the mass timber rollout. Cool stuff!

Election night 1984.
What is the oldest political news story you can remember? For me it's Joe Biden being selected as Obama's VP.

Goal: Pursue policy reforms so novel and eccentric that every update needs to remind people that you are not, at least this time, doing a bit.
Once text is public I'll have a Substack out about the SLOTHS Act and why it hits the best approach to sloth protection domestically. We STILL need serious USDA APHIS reform, but step one is stop bringing sloths to the U.S. It's cruel. **! reminder this is REAL and not a bit!

God bless these brave young activists. I also wrote about this for the @ceidotorg blog in 2015: cei.org/blog/onions-have-no-…
The 1958 Onion Futures Act banned futures trading of onions, and they remain the only agricultural commodity banned in America. This is a grave injustice. Join us in working to repeal the ban!

The only way we’ve built nuclear at scale & affordably is by building the same reactor again and again. But we’ve forgotten how to do that. Glad to see TNC renewing that playbook. Ambitious to build 6 AP1000s, but if they can apply lessons from Vogtle 3➡️4, this would be huge.

When even Starbucks is moving away from aggressive climate/ESG policies, you know something's afoot in corporate America. In my latest for @AIER, I explain how years of shareholder engagement may be vindicated by the coffee giant's recent 'green pivot.' Read below.⏬

The past--even the recent past--is littered with corporate goliaths once thought to be unstoppable (Borders, RedBox, AOL, PanAm, A&P...). Worth remembering in an era of rising calls for economic regulation.
Remember when the "N" in FAANG was Netflix and the pundits told us it had unassailable market power in online streaming? 🙄 These days people are wondering whether the company is on its way to being the next Blockbuster Video (the company it once dethroned).

Prediction Markets Are Not "Just Gambling' Platforms "Why would a sports bar across the street from Chicago’s Wrigley Field put a money stake on the Cubs failing? Rizzo’s, a 20,000-square-foot bar in Wrigleyville, did just that. It bought a contract that would pay if the Cubs hosted fewer than two home playoff games. The Cubs then lost both Wild Card games to the Padres in San Diego, triggering the payout. The logic is called “hedging.”" nationalreview.com/2026/10/p…

Need to make sure this is a concerted effort, not a one-off "surge" of enforcement
Interesting: @limebike has banned 1,000 users in D.C. over the last month for violating rules on the use of its e-scooters and bikes, including underage users, dangerous riding, and more. This comes amidst concerns over improper use and rule-breaking on the bikes and scooters.
