The only reason this stirs attention (and for MAGA conspiracy theorists, controversy) is because it seems unusual.
And that is because the media usually go along with this foolish bit of theatre. It plays out most days with most leaders almost everywhere.
Once in awhile a camera pulls back, like this, to show viewers a president or prime minister waving warmly at an empty airport tarmac populated only with a few aides, drivers and security personnel looking at their phones.
It is kind of comical. The rookies look awkward doing it; only the pros and veterans can make it look genuine. But they all know that the occasional wideshot makes everyone involved seem a bit foolish.
Said as though not evidence of Kenney's (a) good judgement and (b) alignment with three quarters of Albertans.

The Alberta Independence movement did do one thing of note, they turfed you as leader of the UCP.
Another misaimed rocket from Planet Zulu...
Trump is tough to deal with. But Mark Carney should have known that when he made a promise in the election to get a good deal with the U.S.
He made the promise. He broke that promise.
U.S. tariffs have more than doubled and broadened on Canadian business since Carney took office promising he could โhandle Trump." Everything is worse. Canadians canโt eat speeches or pay rent with his political theatrics.
It is time for results.
It's a long list with plenty of competition, but it's possible this diesel deal Trump has made with Putin may be the stupidest single thing Trump has done as President.
Putin has played him for a complete dupe.
There doesn't really seem to be any content to this report....

"The scale of what Canada is building is hard to overstate."
The scale of what Canada is building is hard to overstate:
--Churchill Falls = roughly 9 nuclear reactors worth of clean power.
--Pacific Link = an oil export route approaching the consumption of the entire UK.
--LNG Canada Phase 2 = enough gas to equal roughly half of Canadaโs domestic consumption.
We're at the eye-rolling stage regarding this ignoramus, right?
Trump 'loves' Canadians, especially Wayne Gretzky, but thinks Canada's leaders are 'very bad.'
The U.S. president's latest rant about Canada came during a White House event marking U.S. Hispanic Heritage Month nationalpost.com/news/trump-โฆ
How dishonest. It was never the plan to start building @LNGCanada Phase II until Phase I was up and running. Phase I went into operation June 2025.
Today, just fifteen months later, the five LNG partners announced their final investment to proceed with construction.
Bravo to all involved in the effort to reach this terrific milestone day for the Canadian economy.
Today's announcement on LNG Phase II is long-delayed good news. But this project got its permit a decade ago, because of the Harper government. Bad Liberal policies delayed its construction, which has still not begun.
Over the same period, the U.S. built, not announced but built, 9 LNG terminals. Germany built an LNG import terminal in 194 days.
Instead of taking credit for work done by others long ago, Carney should explain why it took him so long to do so little.
The solution is to pre-permit shovel-ready zones. Axe the industrial carbon tax. Get government out of the way and let Canadian workers build. Now: conservative.ca/cpc/adopt-thโฆ
If you knew anything at all about public policy, you'd kniw that "rich boomers" do mit keeep a penny of Old Age Security". But carry on.

Alternate view: Boomers donโt care about their grandkids. As long as our government keeps the focus on Trump and keeps paying rich boomers OAS cheques, nothing else matters.
Entire generations are suffering bc boomers are narcissists
There are currently 137 Conservative MPs in the Canadian House of Commons. The endless negativity of the Poilievre-Scheer leadership duo suggests the party has alienated so many Canadians that 81 of them are vulnerable to losing their seats were an election to take place today.
Great news for Canada and for our trade partners in Asia and Europe.
LNG Canada today announced that its Joint Venture Participants have taken a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the LNG Canada Phase 2 expansion project in Kitimat, BC, in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation tinyurl.com/3ysr2jxy
No, we probably shouldn't expect Trump to offer Canada a better deal. That's an argument for hunkering down with the rest of our work while continuing to refuse a bad deal, not surrendering to it.
Meanwhile, the share of Canada's exports of goods and services heading to the USA has declined for three straight years, from 72% in 2022 to 67% in 2025. They are no doubt declining further in 2026, per the stated goal of Trump policies.
Over the same period, the volume and share of Canadian exports to non-US destinations is rising, from 28% to 33%. Canadian exports to UK๐ฌ๐ง EU ๐ช๐บ China๐จ๐ณ and the rest of Asia-Pacific are our fastest-growing trade partners.
In 2025 alone, Canada's exports to the USA dropped by $26 billion. Meanwhile exports to non-US trade partners increased by $35 billion.
For Canada's economic prosperity and sovereignty, risk reduction via trade diversification is not only a must, it is already occurring. Conservatives like Stephen Harper understand that. Others should stop dismissing it.

Harrison "Do we really expect, having now gone a few rounds with the President, that he's going to propose a better deal than what was on the table last time?"
"We also have the economic reality of 80% of our trade being with the United States."
"For all this talk about Eurovision and associate EU membership, Europe is 8% of our trade. If you include non EU European countries like the Nordic States, that booms up to 11%."
"We need to keep a foot on both logs here"
"So it can't just be chasing trade diversification at the expense of any relationship with the United States."
And this "what is the point of going back to the table?" must be a Liberal talking point because David Cochrane keeps repeating it in the panels... @KatlynHarrison
The 400% tariffs he enjoys misleading his gullible followers with are only triggered if the quotas the USA and Canada agreed on - with him, the last time he was president - are exceeded...but they are not exceeded so the 400% tariffs are not actually paid or collected.
