Since I’ve got some new people on my page—welcome!—it’s probably a good time to once again mention my books.
The Case Files of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society books are haunted histories and reports from open minded but skeptical paranormal investigations.
Arithmophobia is an anthology of mathematically inspired horror stories.
In the Woods is an anthology of horror and fantasy in woodland settings.
A little something for everyone. Hope y’all enjoy!
I would very much like to know why I've been ghosted by the customer service rep in @McDonalds DMs.
It's been almost two full days since I've received a reply after providing the information requested of me and after multiple attempts to follow up. This after already having a problem with an advertised prize being unclaimable.
🕯️
Anyone there, @McDonalds? I see you responding to other posts so I know someone's monitoring these.
As I put the finishing touches on my history book, I've been collecting a selection of Presidential quotations. This one struck me:
“God forbid that the day should ever come when, in the American mind, the thought of man as a consumer shall submerge the old American thought of man as a creature of God, endowed with unalienable rights.” — President Benjamin Harrison, Views of an Ex-President, 1901

My day of rest...isn't.
Started nice enough with an early morning Mass. Then one of my electronic gizmos gave up the ghost. And when I went out to replace that, my garage door spring decided to go all cattywampus. And that's one of relatively few household repairs I can't do myself.

I know it’s not the most probable, but I’ve always been fond of the solution that civilizations are actually everywhere, but all the other ones are smart enough to keep the lights off because they know what’s out there.
What do you think of that one, @grok?
🕯️
Hey @Grok, the universe is about 13.8 billion years old. So where is everybody? Give me your single best answer to the Fermi paradox.
And yet she wasn’t complaining about there already being enough of The Exorcist when she cashed the check for that execrable BELIEVER sequel.
With all due respect to one of the stars of my favorite movie, hypocrisy is ugly as sin.
🕯️
Ellen Burstyn expresses dismay over Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” reboot coming next year.
“Isn’t there enough already of the ‘Exorcist’ thing?” she exclaims. “It’s enough already.”

You know why I want a bigger presence on social media?
It's not ego.
It's not even monetization, though that sure would be nice.
Nor is it about networking and getting more eyes on my work, though that would be nicer still.
It's because I want all my complaints and petty grievances to go viral.

This is now two days in a row I’ve had a power outage.
I wonder if @xcelenergy would care to comment on their severe and worsening reliability issues.
🕯️
Dear @xcelenergy,
That power outage cost me hours of my life, thousands of words on my book, sent a cancer patient and a dementia patient into a panic, and damn near cost me an important meeting.
I hope you're proud of yourselves.
Rot in hell.
Sincerely,
Bob

And while we're on the topic of Howard Stern being disgusting, never forget what he did to Dana Plato.
He had her on his show back in 1991 to promote her show and push back against rumors about her personal life. Stern and his callers spent the entire program attacking a clearly vulnerable child star, calling her a junkie, a has-been, and so forth. She died in what the police called suicide by overdose the next day.
This man got rich by destroying people. Famous or otherwise.

It’s time once again for everyone’s favorite horror podcast. Join us wherever you like to get your podcasts as, in this episode, we discuss and learn about horror filmmaking in Colorado specifically and away from Hollywood in general.
🕯️
Why do all the social media sites like the Book of Faces or the Tube of You keep trying so hard to remind everyone to vote?
Don't get me wrong; voting is important. I've never missed an election in my adult life. But I've seen some of their users' posts and these are not the people we want to encourage to choose our representatives!

She did, in fact, say Christians shouldn't watch scary things. She's just trying to walk it back because the entire Internet came together to point out she didn't know what she was talking about. Regarding horror or regarding Scripture, both of which she misrepresented.
🕯️
Hang on! I didn’t say anywhere that Christians shouldn’t watch suspenseful or tense things. In the episode I specifically warn against movies that are meant to stoke paranoia, anxiety, a nagging sense of dread and fear. I don’t believe consuming that kind of content facilitates the peace to which God calls us. I also never said Christians can only watch Christian-branded entertainment or that we can’t watch things that are complicated and sometimes violent. My favorite movies of all time contain war and suspense and moral complexity. I still stand by what I said - we shouldn’t consume content that is intended to make us feel paranoid.
This is the kind of bad take that drives people away from the Church. I'm just glad I realized before it was too late that such are false teachings. Because not only does this completely miss the value of a good horror story, but it also completely misunderstands "be not afraid" in the Biblical context.

Until I find a woman excited to name our firstborn son Clive Staples, I remain single. That's my dealbreaker.

Slappy did his civic duty by voting only *after* developing a thorough understanding of each candidate and question on the ballot. He’s apparently somehow less of a Dummy than many people, God help us.

The latest addition to my stamp collection, courtesy of my colleague and coauthor Bryan (many thanks!). We discovered the Romanians had issued these Dracula stamps when we saw a set at the Pueblo library during our lecture on vampire lore. My inner philatelist is thrilled.
