We’ve also expanded the number of EC number and KO annotations included by about 1.3-fold. I’ll add some directions on how users can add a gene of interest using HMMs soon, too.

The new database is included from v2.6.0 of PICRUSt2, and if you use it we’d love to hear your feedback on it!

I am looking for graduate students interested in investigating bacterial genome evolution, esp. pangenomes and intergenic regions, and the relative importance of genetic drift! buff.ly/3UPVcQ9

Christmas came early for the IMR.bio! This should replace our two old MiSeqs and provide higher quality reads (for the full 2x300bp) and double our average number of reads per sample for the same price. Thanks to Andre Comeau, IMR Manager, for the photo op.
Big moves happening at @BetaScience’s #IMR. First @illumina MiSeq i100 Plus in Canada will start to churn data in the new year, adding to 17B reads already generated on their MiSeqs. Congratulations!

📢 @IMPACTT_Canada #HavingIMPACTT2024 @RobynJWright from @BetaScience lab 🤔 Kraken2 vs MetaPhlAn3 (PMID: 36867161) ✅MetaPhlAn is "ok" but not close to optimized Kraken protocol ✅including human database in Kraken remove human reads from microbiome analysis? Filtration needed
