Afghanistan: Taliban has arrested, detained & beaten two LGBT+ activists—Maryam Ravish a lesbian Afghan & Abdul Ghafoor Sabery a trans Afghan who goes by her chosen name Maeve Alcina Pieescu, according to @RoshaniyaLGBT & it’s CEO @nematsadat Maryam & Maeve were set to depart on a Mahan Airlines flight from Kabul to Tehran, with Maryam’s same-sex partner, Parwen Hussaini on 20 March. Parwen had obtained prior permission from the airport authorities after a male relative authorized her to travel and she was able to board the flight and reach her destination. Regrettably, Maryam’s relatives were forcing her to marry an Afghan man who lived in Australia and they rejected any notion that Maryam could honour her sexuality and escape with her true love —Parwen. Roshaniya spent the past several months to plan for this evacuation and sponsored the relocation of Maryam, Maeve & Parwen. When Maeve & Maryam wanted to board the plane, they were met by the Taliban’s intelligence unit who refused them to board the flight. They searched through the content of their phones & discovered they were both LGBTs. They have been beaten and battered by the Taliban and they are expected to be in jail for a minimum of six months and possibly tortured. Taliban has death penalty for LGBTs.
