To the residents and advocates who have raised concerns: I hear you.
My office does not operate any Flock cameras or other automated license plate readers (APLRs), but we are all affected by how this technology is used and who can access its data.
That’s why I led the Court to take action today, and I’ll keep pressing for real limits, oversight, and accountability.
Public safety and privacy are not mutually exclusive.
Every Harris County resident is affected by how this technology is used and who has access to the data it collects.
ICE's behavior is appalling and another alarming example of reckless conduct that puts our community’s safety at risk.
Family members and community advocates gathered in west Houston to demand answers and call for Miguel Parra-Hernandez’s release from ICE custody after he was struck by an ICE vehicle during an enforcement operation. houstonchronicle.com/news/ho…
I join my colleagues and members of the community in calling on ICE and all federal authorities to cooperate fully with Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and District Attorney Sean Teare and immediately provide all relevant evidence for their ongoing independent investigation.
Proud to support Dr. Letitia Plummer for County Judge and Darrell Jordan for District Clerk at a reception hosted by Yousof Allam and Wisam Nahhas. Abbott wants Harris County red, and outside billionaires are ready to spend millions. Our answer: ORGANIZE, MOBILIZE & VOTE! 🗳️ #GOTV
Today, I celebrated the life of my friend, mentor, and big brother, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, on what would have been his 85th birthday.
Rev. Jackson taught generations of us to fight for justice, stand with working people, protect voting rights, and never lose faith in the possibility of a better America.
While we deeply miss him since his passing on February 17, I am grateful for the friendship, wisdom, laughter, and lessons he gave us.
Happy 85th Birthday, Rev. Jackson. 🕊️✊🏾❤️
In 1829, President Vicente Ramón Guerrero abolished slavery in Mexico.
My office is proud to celebrate the legacy of Vicente Guerrero, the first Black president of the Americas, whose role in both our state and national history often goes untold.
Across Harris County, you may have seen our “Moving Monuments” buses, including our newest honoring Vicente Guerrero. These public art projects reflect our shared ideals and values and elevate social justice heroes who broke down barriers, fought for equality, and led movements toward justice.
Election judges are on the frontlines of our democracy, helping voters navigate the process and cast their ballots with confidence.
To prepare for the upcoming November election, the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis proudly hosted an annual Election Judge Training and Breakfast this morning. Thank you to @harriscotxclerk Teneshia Hudspeth, her Elections Team, and all election workers whose service helps ensure Harris County elections are fair, secure, and accessible.
Residents should do all they can to prepare as well.
The deadline to register to vote or update your registration information is Monday, October 5. Check your status today at HCtax.net, and visit HarrisVotes.com to make your voting plan before early voting begins on October 19.
The deaths of Royce Witchet and LePaul Warren Jr. are heartbreaking. Our young people deserve to be safe at school, on the walk home, and everywhere in between.
We need stronger gun violence prevention measures and sustained investment in proven community-based programs. That’s why I pushed to expand our violence interruption program, Relentless Interrupters Serving Everyone (RISE), in this year’s budget.
Through RISE, trusted community members work directly in neighborhoods most impacted by gun violence — including supporting students in the wake of these tragic shootings — and help to break those cycles and resolve conflicts before they turn deadly.
Public safety cannot begin and end by responding after someone has been hurt or killed. We have a responsibility to invest in prevention, reach people earlier, and give every young person a better chance to make it home safely.
Royce Witchet, 15, and LePaul Warren, Jr., 17, died in separate shootings near their high schools. Elected officials are calling for stronger gun violence prevention. houstonchronicle.com/news/ho…
Harris County’s new community solar energy program could cut your electricity bill by almost $1,000 per year.
No rooftop panels, no equipment purchases, and no upfront costs required to join this upcoming program.

My office was excited to welcome @rolandsmartin, the @NABJ board, elected officials, and community leaders for a reception as @NABJ prepares for its 2027 annual conference in Houston.
Our Affordable Community Energy (ACE) program puts County property to work for the public, generating clean energy and passing savings to residents through electric bill credits. Renters and homeowners alike will be able to benefit without installing panels or paying upfront costs.
Residents deserve affordable energy, good jobs, and healthy, green communities—ACE is step toward all three.
I am proud to have championed this program and prouder still to see it brought to life right here in Precinct One with the first of seven planned ACE sites at Reliant Center.

Nearly a year ago, the state forced Houston to remove the rainbow crosswalk from a Montrose intersection.
Yesterday, we unveiled 20 Pride flag banners along Westheimer Rd.
They could remove the paint. But they can’t erase the LGBTQ+ community, its history, or its place in Houston.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this month's Last Tuesday event — The Fight for the Right to Vote.
I'm grateful for our panelists Congressman Christian Menefee, State Rep. Christina Morales, and Bishop James Dixon for sharing their wisdom and insight.
Every voice matters in this upcoming election.
