What does an x402 facilitator do?
When an AI agent pays a business over x402, the facilitator checks the signed payment and settles it on chain. The business gets paid and sends the result.
It doesn't choose what the agent buys. It makes the payment verifiable.

Identity layers are multiplying. Concordium's Agent Registry reports 3,828 verified agents and now settles x402 payments, and Olas added a Know Your Agent report based on ERC-8004 registrations. concordium.com/article/agent…
News: Security firm V12 found 25 flaws in the x402 SDKs, three rated critical.
The worst: before fixes released on 18 August, the default client set no spending limit, so a malicious API could ask an agent to sign over its full token balance.
The fixed clients now cap each payment at $1 by default. No attacks have been reported.
A spending limit stops an agent overpaying. Knowing who it is paying is the other half.

News: Mastercard has opened early access to Agent Pay for Machines, built on x402.
A business gives an agent a job and a budget. When a service asks for payment, the agent signs a voucher within its limit and the work carries on.
In the pilot, one agent made nine payments to two merchants on one budget, with no separate accounts or API keys.
More payments like these mean more need for a neutral record of who was paid, for what, and at what price.

Use is growing. x402 monthly active senders rose 152% to about 43,100, with 75.4 million transactions and $24.2 million settled in 30 days, according to figures reported this week.
