Mahmoud Khalil has returned to Columbia University after he was detained by ICE for three months on the orders of US President Donald Trump in 2025.
Khalil, a Palestinian refugee born in Syria who holds a US green card, missed the birth of his first child while being held in detention. He has since released a memoir recounting some of his experiences, and is suing Columbia University, accusing it of deliberate indifference towards anti-Palestinian discrimination and harassment.

Former President Obama criticized President Trump’s war with Iran while campaigning for Democrats in Georgia on Wednesday, less than a week before the midterm elections.
“This happens to be something I know a little bit about,” Obama said. “I didn’t fire any missiles, I engaged in diplomacy.”
The war with Iran, which began in February, has cost the U.S. military at least $47.1 billion as of mid-October, according to a new estimate from U.S. Central Command obtained by CBS News.
