Excellent. They’ve heard us. Now it’s time to show they’re listening.
I believe they have the right intentions and are committed to finding the right balance for Versus.
Open dialogue is essential, but meaningful progress comes from constructive criticism that is accompanied by practical solutions.
After 41 hours of PvP, I believe Ranked Gears is in one of its worst states.
Rather than just complain, I've outlined 10 areas where meaningful changes could improve competitive play.
Constructive feedback, proposed solutions, and an open discussion. 👇
It’s blatantly obvious that delivering the best competitive multiplayer experience was not a priority for E-Day at launch.
No private lobbies.
No leaderboards.
No ranked play at launch.
Grassroots and underground competition just got dropkicked before the game even launched.
And I think that gets to the heart of how I feel about E-Day right now:
The transparency is there. The communication is there. But my trust that we’re going to get a meaningful competitive experience has been completely compromised.
Based on the beta and the updates we’ve seen since, it feels like the focus is on making Gears more approachable to newer and more casual players. I understand that. This franchise needs new players, and growing the audience is important.
My concern is what gets sacrificed in pursuit of that audience.
You can build a game designed to attract new customers, but there’s no guarantee those players stay. They might play for a week and move on.
Easy come, easy go.
Meanwhile, there are players who have poured thousands of hours into this franchise over the last two decades.
Players who kept competing, organizing, scrimming, hosting tournaments, and playing Gears long after the broader gaming audience moved on.
For those players, launching without even the basic infrastructure to support competitive play feels like a slap in the face.
And I say all of this while having tremendous respect for the sheer amount of work that went into building E-Day from scratch. This game clearly feels like the foundation for the next era of Gears, and I genuinely want it to succeed.
I’m rooting for this game.
Competitive players don’t need everything on day one.
We need the tools to build something ourselves.
I sincerely hope @CoalitionGears brings them back ASAP.
No private matches on launch. 🥲

7 days out from release and dataminer confirming rumors of no private matches…let’s hope this ISNT from the launch build.
This would truly would be the biggest oversight on TC’s part, and would seriously need to be corrected.
I’m holding out hope, but damn.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
TLDR private matches are probably not coming server browser is campaign only Lan does work but there is no menu option for it.
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus — parent Versus landing menu
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Barracks
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Matchmaking
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Setup
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Soldier
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Social — Social playlist
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Ranked — Ranked playlist
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_SocialEvent — Event playlist
BP_UIWidget_VersusMenu_PlaylistEntry exposes only:
- SetupAsSocialOption
- SetupAsRankedOption
- SetupAsEventOption
No SetupAsPrivateOption, SetupAsCustomOption, or host option exists.
Assets under FairlightConcept/Content/Fairlight/Interface/LobbyBrowser/:
- BP_UIScene_CampaignLobbyBrowser
- BP_UIWidget_CampaignLobbyBrowserItem
- BP_ViewModel_LobbyBrowserItem
- BP_HostGameButton
- BBDA_Toast_CampaignHostingDisabled
- JoinCampaignGameModal/ scene files
- GetLobbyBrowserView
- RefreshLobbyBrowser
- NextLobbyBrowserPage
- PreviousLobbyBrowserPage
ETCOGame_CampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserStatus
- Idle, Refreshing, Filtering, Sorting, Invalid
ETCOGameCampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserFiltery
None, Difficulty, Mission, Playstyle
ETCOGame_CampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserSortby
- None, Difficulty, Mission, Players
Browser is campaign only The only option i see for competitive moving forward is LAN as currently the following works
- bIsDedicatedServer
- bClampListenServerTickRate
- DefaultServerListenPort
Host: OpenLevel("TestMap_Lobby?listen")
client: UEngine::Browse with 127.0.0.1:44965/TestMap_Lobby returned Pending (0x2) and created an IpNetDriver with a ServerConnection.
There is no exposed menu option for LAN though sigh.

.@asha_shar COULD REVIVE THIS!!!
Woah.
It really surprises me how quickly people react to baseless claims about E-Day…with ZERO sources.. “no private matches”… seriously?
Thread 🧵
.@GearsEsports has been dormant for 4 years and it’s almost been 7 years since the last LAN.
And during this unfortunate break…everything’s fallen apart.
The grassroots competitive scene isn’t in a healthy state to warrant a esports program at the moment.
