Elder Millennials formulated their personalities before the advent of reality television. That's where people behaving as if there's an audience when there's not one started.
There was a whole generation between gen x and millennial, born from around 80-85, who are different than everyone else.

Thread argues that the trend in increased US productivity pre-dates AI and is a result to how the USA's labour market adapted to shocks, i.e. by laying off people while maintaining production levels. Doing more with less. USA's strength in productivity is deeper than merely AI.
Quick thread on AI and productivity: Lots of people say this chart shows AI is now showing up in the productivity data. But I made this chart to argue the opposite: a trend that pre-dates AI and only shows up in the US doesn’t look like AI. Here’s how I’m thinking about the data and underlying dynamics:

Baker suggests that the more recent data does point to signs of AI productivity. Either way, expect the USA to be better able to translate either shocks or new technology into productivity. Doing more with less labour, increasing material living standards. teapawt.org/GavinSBaker/status/211…
Hard for me to look at these charts from the FT, especially the first one, and not see some evidence of “ROI on AI.” Seems like a productivity surge post-Covid era overhiring that began to reverse before ChatGPT came out and then resumed its upward trend after ChatGPT. Especially given the @a16z data on revenue per employee at their portfolio companies and the @EPBResearch data showing that the 3 industries that have most heavily adopted AI have gone from 2.2% productivity growth to 5% productivity growth. And makes sense that it is showing up in the US first - America is 72% of Anthropic revenue vs. 50%ish at most application software companies. Great stuff from @jburnmurdoch even if I disagree with his conclusion.

No one will confuse her for a quant trader or a young techbro regardless of what she wears. It's a safer bet for her to dress nicely as an older woman in order to maintain "face", which is important in her culture.
She’s still thinking like a peasant. Society now runs on an inverse dress code. Billionaires like Alexandr Wang and partners at quant trading firms dress homeless while actual poor people wear gaudy shoes, watches and chains. It’s called countersignaling.

No, thin people stay hungry without becoming fat all the time. Hunger isn't the cause of fatness, overeating is.
Pre-Ozempic, there were many theories: fat people weren't really hungry--it was our obesogenic environmemt, ultra-processed food, sedentariness, emotional problems. Post-Ozempic, we know: most were just really hungry. Reduce their hunger & they lose weight.

People are material and innately seek social status, so no need to advocate in favour of these traits to start. Steal man is that religious/philosophical rulers advocate restraint in order to ameliorate excesses. In reality, they do so in order to have a more docile herd.
All major religions and most philosophical ethics agree that focusing on material things and social status harms the soul. Yet our culture, even in the "far right", continues to trend that way. If we don't choose the simpler life, Providence, for our good, will impose it on us.

The problem of materialism and social status is one of mimetic desire and the resulting potential for violence within the group. Christianity handles it through Christ's sacrifice and providence. Judaism externalises it to burnt offerings (including of enemies). Hindus caste.

Marxism, being an off-shoot of Judaism, uses the burnt offering mode on its enemies, with the de-materialising aspect similar to Plato's teachings for the propertyless herd. It's 2026. You can handle mimetic desire through product differentiation, manners, productive growth etc.

From a game theory point of view, we need the ability and will to reciprocally blockade Hormuz on Iran the way they attempt to do with us. That is the correct way to secure commercial flows through the straight. So far the USA does this.

Not really. Having a great father is chill
Unless you have a great father, in which case you spend the whole decade crushed under the horrifying weight of never being able to match him.

In the mind of most people, gross margin is theft. They don't get it.

I don't worry about other Arabs any more
I don't worry about Gulf Arabs. We will probably be ok, in all scenarios, even WWIII. It's the other Arabs I worry about.

An actual war would be preferable to a "Not War" war. WWIII even.

Would WWIII improve menswear? I'm not saying it's a reason to go to war, just thinking of consequences.
