🚨⚠️ NOT an official cause of crash. Aircraft mechanic: @Steve08_26 "Icing which resulted in some sort of stall, structural failure and subsequent separation of the horizontal stabilizer during the nosedive which would explain their inability to arrest the extreme decent rate."

"I'm here with you. Talk to me." That's what an air traffic controller told the Learjet crew as the plane fell toward Florida, according to the radio recordings. Yesterday my grandfather told me what it's like to be on that end of the radio. Investigators brief reporters at 1 p.m. today.
After today's jet crash in Florida, I asked my grandfather what it's like to be on the other end of the radio when a plane goes down. He spent 25 years in New York air traffic control. "You never forget it, Zach. I've heard final words a couple of times." What he told me, and the save nobody ever heard about 👇

The jet that crashed in Florida today was dropping at up to 32,000 feet per minute. That's about 360 mph, straight down. A normal descent is around 2,000. Here's what that number actually means, and what investigators will look at next 👇

For context, a normal descent into an airport is roughly 1,500 to 3,000 feet a minute, so this was about ten times that. 5:48 UTC is 12:48 p.m. in Florida, right around when the first calls came in.🙏
