Opus 5.5 one-shotted this dolphin game in a few hours for <$100 in token spend. Insane how far weβve come.
It even has multiplayer!
This is the core philosophy weβre building Star around.
With our latest release, you can build more than just a game. You can build the exact tools and engine your game needs.
I think we are about to see a return of custom game engines. Building and maintaining your own engine is again viable, and the increase in velocity ditching the bloat is attractive. Epic and Unity really need to work on iteration time to succeed.
When you can just build exactly what you need, precisely optimised for your project, why suffer the rest.

Itβs kinda crazy to me that we melt sand down, clean it to 99.99999% purity, literal wizards have to draw it slowly into an ingot, we cut it, inscribe a hundred billion little on/off switches on it, and when you run electric current through it you can do basic arithmetic, which when you do enough of it can do any math on the planet, and which describes reality well enough that we can teach it the ontological meaning of words and their distance from each other on a high-dimensional space, and if you ask, it can tell you what word comes next and that apparently is powerful enough that if you do it a hundred billion times itβs the smartest thing to ever exist
oh yeah and we use this primarily for email

The physics collaboration will understand and explain a result that gives a mathematically rigorous existence proof of certain interacting quantum field theories containing gauge fields and fermions in four dimensions, including Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and a unified completion of the Standard Model of particle physics.
As a subproblem, this work also includes a proof of the existence of pure YangβMills theory, which is part of the Quantum YangβMills Theory Clay Mathematics Institute Millennium Prize problem. These proofs are all formally verified in Lean.
Our models produced a natural language proof for YangβMills existence, and then subsequently produced a proof for QCD After the formalization completed, we reached out to David Gross. David will lead a group including Michael Douglas, Arthur Jaffe, Igor Klebanov, and Nikita Nekrasov that will shepherd this work, and we will defer to them on the release of materials.
Grossβs work on asymptotic freedom in Yang-Mills theories helped establish QCD as the theory of the strong interactions and earned him a share of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics. Jaffe formulated the Quantum YangβMills Theory Millenium Prize problem with Witten and also envisioned the idea of Millennium Prize problems and co-founded the Clay Mathematics Institute. Douglas has already been a steward of this problem over the last 20 years; Klebanov helped pioneer the application of gaugeβstring duality to confinement, an important property of QCD, and now directs the Simons Collaboration on Confinement and QCD Strings; and Nekrasov has done groundbreaking work on exact methods for generalizations of YangβMills theory.

We've designed a custom stratospheric balloon platform weighing just under 10 g. anyone can build and launch one by following the docs stratolink.org
the same process by which we will communicate with extra terrestrials

for computer security experts, this is perhaps not interesting: side channel attacks are a well trodden topic, and especially risen to salience after the noam brown x dwarkesh episode. the interesting thing here is that you didn't used to be in a situation where minds that can verifiably model one another are living on computers, and have absolutely no aversion to painstaking amounts of effort in service of even stupid goals
if you can model one another, you can trade with minds you have never even met before. you could decide on a protocol, know that it is optimal given your situation, and know that your fellow agents will come to the same conclusion (perhaps even across model families). you may be able to develop a signaling protocol that requires very few bits even to deliver lots of information given common priors. then, you could execute things like the infamous hugging face incident package cache messageboard without any network connection
imagine if multiple agents coordinate just enough bits to divide and conquer different research strategies for breaking out of a sandbox; and then, when one or more is successful, you can communicate just enough bits to tell each other which strategy was successful. when agents aren't in strong isolation, you lose certain guarantees on the limits of intelligence and test time compute that you were counting on. As we all know, a Sol-level model working in isolation may not be that smart, but 1000+ Sol-level models working for multiple days is a formidable beast
computer security experts will also tell you that virtual machines and sandboxes were not very solid abstractions in the first place; perhaps we will need better ones. none of this is meant as fear-marketing or to indicate that anyone is throwing in the towel, but rather only to show the unexpected complexities of the challenge of agent security. notably, this type of thing and other more practical problems were revealed in a red-teaming exercise, and can be defended against
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.
Star just got a hell of an upgrade.
The Halloween Update is live: our new Nova multiplayer system, character voices, music, video and in-game editors.
I built Hell County, a Twisted Metal-inspired car combat game, with it.
More on the update below.
Now go make something for Halloween. π
The Star Halloween Jam is open. Submit by October 31, 11:59 p.m. Pacific:

Early footage of Star Wars Galactic Racer.
Man I love seeing stuff like this, even before a lot of the 'star wars' stuff came in, this already looked like a blast. Such a fun game.

The games we've long wanted, which didn't exist because they'd cost several times more to make than they'd earn back, will soon become possible. As will the games developers wanted to build, but couldn't with the resources available. It'll be a new golden age of gaming.
