For training to have an impact individuals have to: (1) want to be there (2) believe there are things they don’t know (3) be receptive to learning new information even if it challenges core beliefs. The ppl who need it most generally don’t meet these criteria.

I’ve found that most don’t understand how insidious grooming is…@TheCarolErskine does an excellent job of breaking it down for the uninformed.
Just stop! This is my message for those posting comments blaming Sandra Birchmore for other sexual encounters besides Matthew Farwell. Someone commented on a Facebook post recently about Sandra Birchmore: “She’s no angel! What was done to her was wrong, but she knew what she was doing as she got older.” That statement and others like it reflect a profound misunderstanding of grooming and childhood sexual exploitation. As I explained on @JusticeServedTV Sandra's sexual encounters with other men cannot be separated from the grooming that began when she was just 12 years old. Grooming is not simply about obtaining sex from a child. It is about systematically dismantling that child's understanding of love, trust, boundaries, and relationships. Farwell exploited Sandra's vulnerabilities and her admiration for police officers. Through years of relentless manipulation, he conditioned her to associate sexual availability with affection, acceptance, and approval. This is the reason groomers like Farwell can continue to sexually exploit victims into adulthood and leave them vulnerable to exploitation by others. That conditioning did not disappear when Sandra turned 18. A birthday does not erase years of psychological manipulation. What some characterize as promiscuity, actually reflects the lasting consequences of childhood sexual exploitation. Sandra's adult behavior must be understood in the context of what was done to her as a child. As a Juvenile Court judge for more than two decades, I saw firsthand how grooming and sexual trauma can distort a young person's understanding of relationships and personal boundaries. Stop judging and blaming Sandra for behaviors shaped by years of grooming that distorted her understanding of personal boundaries and left her vulnerable to continued sexual exploitation. Just stop.

This is bleak. As a non-parent, I never judge parents unless there's a case of abuse or a clear case of really bad parenting. I've come to appreciate how difficult it is to be a parent and how parents sometimes have to make compromises to care for their kids that don't always meet the standards they've set for themselves or that, if shared publicly, might require a great deal of vulnerability. But if your daughter's teacher asks you to name three things that make your own child special, and you turn to an AI assistant for the answer, I'm going to judge you as a parent. There's a difference between using AI to help organize things, or even clean up something you've already written about your child, and relying on AI to answer a deeply personal question about what makes your child special. Maybe Marissa Mayer already knew all three things about her daughter. That's not the point. The point is that she was asked to identify what makes her daughter special, and she outsourced the answer to AI. And what makes this even more absurd is that the assistant came back with three of the most generic descriptions imaginable: empathetic, creative, and an animal lover. Those are lovely qualities, but they could describe millions of children. And if you think this is a story that reflects well on you as a parent, let alone one worth proudly sharing with the world, you are clearly untethered from reality.

On April 10th, 2013, Sandra Birchmore was 15. Matthew Farwell was about to turn 27. Intercourse with Birchmore on that date is statutory rate by law. "In Massachusetts, sexual intercourse with a child under 16 is rape of a child under G.L. c. 265, § 23. The child’s consent is not a defense. A person convicted under § 23 faces imprisonment in state prison for life or for any term of years. The Commonwealth may indict a person for rape of a child at any time after the offense. G.L. c. 277, § 63. The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office received the Stoughton Police Department’s findings in 2022. No Massachusetts prosecutor has charged Mr. Farwell with rape of a child or with any other crime."

After the devastating testimony harmful to Farwell by the expert on grooming, the defense asked the predictable question: “The law for consent in Massachusetts is 16?” In other words, let’s blame the child who had been groomed by that time for almost three years when the abuse started. A sickening strategy of desperation. FYI…Massachusetts was the last state in New England to close a loophole in its age-of-consent laws that left 16- and 17-year-olds vulnerable to sexual exploitation by adults in positions of authority. While neighboring states had already enacted criminal protections, Massachusetts did not close this loophole until 3 months ago in July 2026. The question is not whether a 16- or 17-year-old can legally consent to sexual activity generally. It is whether an adult entrusted with supervising or protecting that child should be permitted to exploit that position of authority. If the law had been enacted when Sandra was 16 and 17, Matthew Farwell could potentially have faced additional felony charges for sexual abuse of Sandra Birchmore. But like everything else in Massachusetts when it comes to protecting children, it’s never surprising that Massachusetts is dead last.

In SA cases we're constantly told that a case can't proceed without the victim. "Dead victims cannot testify in murder trials either. Their deaths do not absolve prosecutors of their responsibility to pursue justice."
The sad truth is that we will likely never see aggravated statutory rape charges filed by the Norfolk County DA's office against Mathew Farwell. As federal prosecutors question investigators assigned to DA Michael Morrissey's office, the public is learning the shocking extent of the evidence overlooked and the investigative steps never taken in Sandra Birchmore's death. Yet equally indefensible was the decision not to prosecute Matthew Farwell for statutory rape. Prosecutors publicly, (and unbelievably) justified that decision by publicly claiming the case would be “difficult to prove because the main witness, Birchmore, was dead.” Think about the enormity of that statement. Dead victims cannot testify in murder trials either. Their deaths do not absolve prosecutors of their responsibility to pursue justice. Sandra's death should have intensified the search for corroborating evidence, including Farwell's own admissions in text messages, not become the convenient justification for failing to prosecute. When Michael Morrissey leaves office, his legacy will be forever stained by the death of Sandra Birchmore. That is the legacy Morrissey will leave behind: an office that failed to protect a sexually exploited child, failed to deliver justice after her death, and failed to hold accountable the very men who had sworn to uphold the law. Sandra Birchmore deserved justice. Instead, she became the face of an institution that failed her in life and in death.

“Crown and defence lawyers jointly recommended a prison sentence of six years.” 15 prior convictions including beating her & setting fire to his mother’s home. SIX. YEARS.

Our government and our courts, as a matter of course, are opaque. They say "Oh, we're very transparent", but it is completely false. Open courts is not "Well, if you can take the day off and travel you can observe" or "If you spend thousands of dollars you can get a transcript". It's taking every effort to make something available. Whenever anything happens, the government response is to keep silent and pretend that this is good enough. And once upon a time, the mushroom strategy worked great for the government and the courts. Now, it just means that anyone with a rumour they want to spread can spread whatever and that's what fills the gaps. It's time for the government and the courts to adopt real transparency.
The reason the government and DND are not giving any information has nothing to do with notifying families or ongoing operations, it’s because for decades they have decided that they don’t give information out. It’s a policy choice, and one that should be rescinded.

There’s a lot of accountability yet to happen. They better not try to one-and-done this thing.
An aside observation. Sandra Birchmore confided in men who had a lot to lose if their own alleged sexual abuse of Sandra was revealed: late 2020/early 2021 Birchmore told Joshua Heal, now an Abington Police Officer, that Matthew Farwell was violent with her. Heal is accused of sexually abusing Birchmore at the Stoughton Animal shelter when he was the town's animal control officer. No action was taken by Heal, an Abington cop, married at the time Jan. 10, 2021 Birchmore meets Billy Farwell in her Canton Woods parking lot. She tells Billy she is pregnant with Matt's baby. They have sex, per POST decertification report. No action taken by Billy Farwell, a Stoughton cop, also married Jan. 24, 2021, she told U.S. Army recruiter Jason Pickard, the father of her unborn child, that Matt Farwell was casing her apartment. The U.S. Army has strict rules about military members fraternizing with recruits, like Sandra. Investigators recovered sexual explicit videos and photos of Birchmore and Pickard on the Farwell brothers' phones, per Stoughton IAD report. No action taken by Pickard, a member of the U.S. military These three men are all referenced in the Stoughton IAD report that former Deputy Chief Brian Holmes testified last week made him fear that there were crimes being committed in other states

A man drugged and raped a New York college student and left her for dead while he photographed and decimated her naked pictures. Women are enraged. Men are judging her appearance and saying “nothing of value has been lost”. Any man who speaks this way has no value at all.

The intersection of the Sandra Birchmore and John O'Keefe cases reveals a deeply troubling culture within local law enforcement. Former Canton Police Sergeant Sean Goode engaged in crude conversations about Birchmore with disgraced Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor. This interaction proves that local officers were not only actively aware of Birchmore but were discussing the allegations surrounding her case from the very beginning. Further exposing this institutional negligence, when Birchmore’s best friend walked into the Canton Police Department to report former Stoughton Police Detective Matthew Farwell for his crimes, Canton officers failed to take notes or file an official report of the interview. At the same time, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe lived in Canton and maintained close friendships with local Canton officers, including Detective Kevin Albert. Kevin worked the Birchmore case. O'Keefe worked within the Sex Offender Registry Unit - a role that operated in the same legal sphere as these developing scandals. Furthermore, Canton was home to several high-ranking Boston Police officials, including Brian Albert, head of the Fugitive Unit, and Superintendent-in-Chief Greg Long. While there is currently no public evidence connecting O'Keefe directly to the Birchmore investigation, his social and professional circles were heavily intertwined with the individuals involved. As the local community buzzed with chatter about Birchmore's case, officers within both the Canton Police and the State Police were actively mocking her behind closed doors. Almost exactly one year after Sandra Birchmore's tragic death, John O'Keefe would be found dead... lying on the front lawn of his fellow officer, Brian Albert.

I appreciate everyone who keeps pointing out the massive cover-up by MSP & Canton police but I’m honestly getting frustrated - when will ppl be charged as accessories after the fact for actively covering up Farwell’s abuse of Sandra Birchmore? Hello, @FBI?
What @MassStatePolice didn’t do that FBI did - you know, as real investigators not just cosplaying one ⭐️got all of Sandra's medical records, all of the defendant's records, his personnel file, his military files, forensic review of Birchmore's devices. ⭐️search warrants on Google, Gmail, Icloud and facebook accounts. ⭐️Reviewed devices themselves, pictures, videos, browsewr history, emails, contact lists.m ⭐️130 witnesses interviewed ⭐️100s of pages of notes taken

She was just a child. The text messages that exploded into public view during the trial of Matthew Farwell for killing Sandra Birchmore are a blueprint for dangerous predators. Farwell exploited Sandra's vulnerabilities. He gained her trust, convinced her that he cared about her, drew her into his sick and dark world, and used the authority of his badge to create the illusion that she was safe with him. Devoid of human decency and any redeemable human qualities, he sexually exploited her, repeatedly, for years. The very person she trusted to protect her became the person she needed protection from. I spent more than two decades on the Juvenile Court bench. I saw the devastation of grooming and sexual exploitation in the faces of young teens who came into my courtroom. Children who had been manipulated by predatory adults who knew exactly how to exploit their vulnerabilities. I know what sexual exploitation looks like. I know the destruction it leaves behind. What Farwell did to Sandra was the carefully calculated predatory grooming and sexual exploitation of a vulnerable child. He knew exactly how much power he held over her. Amid the testimony, the text messages, and the legal arguments, never lose sight of who Sandra was when this began. She was a child.

Good morning from inside Boston's Moakley Federal Courthouse, where I am setup and ready to provide a full live-transcript for day 6 of the Sandra Birchmore and Matthew Farwell trial. I got a nod of approval from the court reporter on the way in. FBI Agent Heidi Kelsch is up later today. Her husband, Matt, was the "#1 best friend" of Brian Higgins --of Karen Read and John O'Keefe trial infamy-- and, further, Matt Kelsch "helped" Higgins extract part of his phone messages with John O'Keefe at a federal government office (prior to Higgins disposing of his phone, and destroying his SIM card, down the Cape at an army base.) But, prior to that, former Stoughton Deputy Chief Holmes will continue his testimony about a bombshell 2021/2022 internal affairs report (initially referred by Stoughton Chief of Police Donna McNamara, who took the stand on Thursday) that led Holmes to make a referral to the FBI about child sexual abuse and "crimes around the country" (yes, he said "country"). Holmes also made a referral to the TSA (where Farwell's brother, William (AKA "Billy) worked at the time, and to the army (where Jayson "Jay" Pickard, the father of Sandra's unborn 8-10 week old baby boy that Matt Farwell thought was his child at the time Sandra was killed on February 1st, 2021 after 9:30PM ET in her Canton Woods apartment). Further, before that referral, sometime in 2021 or 2022 (it is unclear when, exactly, at this point, although Holmes began his IA investigation as early as August of 2021, and the first call to the army and other federal agencies references in his report in October of 2021), Holmes began speaking to FBI agent Kate Kelley --who, it appears, is the supervisor of the FBI's Lakeville, Massachusetts, office-- about 30,000 to 50,000 messages on Sandra Birchmore's laptop extraction that were initially missed by state police investigators (including Brian Tully and John Fanning) working for outgoing Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey. Kelley, for her part, attended the retirement party for then-Canton Police Chief Kenneth "Ken" Berkowitz in July of 2022 (a date well within the window of when Kelley would have been told by Holmes of the ongoing IA investigation into the Farwell brother's nation-wide trafficking ring). Source (via @CantonCommunity) - vimeo.com/731195421 Importantly, Lesley Davis, one of Sandra's friends, told jurors on Thursday that she had "gone to the Canton Police department" in the days after Sandra's death with her brother and mother to "implicate Matthew Farwell." However, Davis told jurors, two "large fat police officers" met her in the lobby, refused to take a report, took no notes, said "they weren't able to talk about that," and never followed up with Davis (as of this point it is unclear who those two Canton cops were, but Michael Lank is on the witness list for the DOJ). Also of note, on Thursday, it was revealed that Brian Tully and John Fanning's formerly underling Nicholas "Nick" Guarino told Fanning and Tully (the first officer and commander of Guarino's infamous state police Norfolk District Attorney's CPAC/SPDU unit...a unit also involved in the prosecutions of Karen Read and journalist Aidan @TurtleBoy Kearney) as early as February of 2021 about the trove of messages on Sandra's laptop implicating Farwell and his cohorts in a litany of federal crimes, but, somehow, the Norfolk DA (via Lynn Beland) went along with Tully and Fanning's efforts to blame Sandra Birchmore's death on self-harm without even looking into the "masked man in her apartment at the time of her death" (as line-trooper, and coverup point-man, Matt Dunne, told jurors earlier this week while under a brutal direct (actually cross) examination by federal prosecutor Brian A. Fogerty. Guarino also, shockingly, revealed that it was Guarino, himself, who did a mysterious December 6, 2021, second extraction of Sandra's laptop (that was a full file extraction, as opposed to a limited message extraction as was done in February of 2021). That extraction occurred without John Fanning or Brian Tully's knowledge and, further, that December, 2021, extraction occurred while the laptop was in the possession of the Stoughton Police IA department (and just two months after Holms, while running that IA investigation, made his referrals to federal agencies). Shockingly, two years later, on August 15 of 2024, Fanning and Dunne were brought into a meeting with a large number of federal agents, along with the medical examiner's office (whom the Canton PD, and Fanning, had pressured to find Sandra's death the result of self harm within 24 hours of Sandra's body being found on February 4, 2021, and before the OCME had done an autopsy). At that meeting, Dunne told jurors, Fanning and Dunne were made aware that Farwell was the "target" of a federal investigation, and that Farwell would soon be indicted and arrested by the FBI and DOJ. Just 9 days later, on August 24, 2024, Tully and Fanning's state police unit "lost due to device failure" the external hard drive at the Norfolk DA's SPDU office that had "every Apple device we had ever extracted, including the first extraction of Sandra's laptop from February of 2021." [Towel note; I wonder what other Apple devices were on that drive that was "lost due to device failure," and I wonder how many of those files were related to the John O'Keefe and Karen Read case.] The second extraction of Sandra's laptop, from December 6 of 2021 (that Fanning and Tully did not know about), was not destroyed and still exists. Thus, I believe, with strong evidence, that the FBI started investigating Tully and Fanning's coverup of Sandra Birchmore's murder as early as October of 2021 (via a call from Holms to the FBI after Holms reviewed the 30,000-50,000 messages on Sandra's laptop). That would certainly explain why, just days later on October 15 of 2021, Holms asked Fanning to turn over Sandra's computer itself (a device Holms held on to until December 15, 2021, at which point Sandra's laptop was returned to John Fanning...without Fanning or Tully being alerted that a second extraction had been done on December 6, 2021 by Guarino while the computer was in the possession of the Stoughton Police IA department,) as the FBI would have wanted a backup copy of the device, in full. In turn, that means that when John O'Keefe was killed on January 29th, 2022, in Canton (a crime also covered up by Tully and Fanning's unit, according to many observers) --the very same town where Sandra lived-- the FBI was already watching the Canton PD, the Stoughton PD, and Tully's state police unit (along with the Norfolk DA's office) very closely. Karen Read, in turn, didn't approach the feds about that coverup. They approached Karen --and probably Aidan, too-- and everything from there was a modified limited hangout designed to confuse Tully and his unit so that unit, the people who they worked for, and the people who worked for them, wouldn't see the FBI investigation coming. And that, folks, is how you investigate a paramilitary state police unit that thinks it is still the heydays of LCN. Q.E.D. Live coverage begins below in 3 minutes. I wrote this story in about 30 minutes sitting in the overflow room waiting for court to start. I used no notes. God bless you all.

Remember this face. This is Sandra Birchmore in 2014, a young teenager in the Stoughton Police Explorers program. By then, under Massachusetts law, Matthew Farwell had already raped her in April 2013 when she was 15. His own text messages confirmed this fact. This is the child Farwell’s defense attorney told jurors had an “affair” with him. Grooming is about trust, manipulation, power and control. Sandra believed Farwell loved her. He exploited that belief to get what he wanted. As the trial unfolds and we debate evidence, witnesses and rulings, remember this face. It is not the face of a girl having an "affair." It is the face of a sexually exploited child. It's the face of thousands of children who are sexually exploited every day.
