Change is inevitable but we the people at-large and over long-run always go for love over hate, humility over arrogance 💯 🫶 🇺🇸
.@JamesTalarico: We didn’t win by alienating our neighbors, or by shaming our neighbors, or by ridiculing our neighbors. We embodied a new kind of politics. A politics rooted in a deep love — for our state, for our country, and for all of our neighbors. My faith teaches me that love is the strongest force in the universe. Love is not passive. Love is not neutral. Love is not weak. Love requires that we stand between the bullies and the bullied. Love requires that we look evil in the eye and not blink. Love can heal what’s broken in America.

The theory of evolution lays the foundation of our understanding of why and how cancers change over time and adapt to therapy. But cancer evolution is a bit special: it is incredibly fast, with multiple routes to adaptation explored at the same time under therapy, and goes beyond genetic alterations, leveraging on heritable (and therefore Darwinian) epigenetic alterations to accelerate evolution. Important note: whereas genetic alterations are difficult to revert, chromatin changes are, in principle, “editable”. Hence maybe epigenetic drivers of cancer evolution can be "reverted"? Here’s our take, after more than 10 years working in this field, on the genomic and epigenomic evolution of colorectal cancer. Link below 👇

Via @rikiyatakehi "We think neural network weights will soon be natively optimized by LLMs that deliberately reason about the weights." 🤯
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math. It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training. We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵 Blog: rikiyat.github.io/blog/weigh…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
LLM was given weights explicitly as text in prompt and used code/forward passes (per authors' logs) to ablate Qwen looping direction, a known thinking-mode issue per model card. Primarily fixed repetition in that mode, not general 'natively' improving weights/math. rikiyat.github.io/blog/weight-sp… github.com/RikiyaT/lm_und… huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen3.5-0… huggingface.co/RikiyaT/Qwen3.…

Election Tuesday is just two days away. For those eligible to vote in the U.S., please make time to go to the polls to vote (or mail in your ballot if you haven't already). Voting is a great privilege of living in a democracy and how we all make our collective voices heard. 🗳️

A big choice in life is accomplishment versus savoring life. Savoring life is taking a moment to smell the roses, enjoying a beautiful day, and making sure you have time with the people you love. Then there's the other side, which is accomplishment and impact. You have to discover for yourself where you are and how you deal with those choices. The key, and the most effective path, is where they align—when you can make your work and your passion one and the same. #RayDalio #LifePrinciples

How does the mitotic spindle adapt to genomes that differ in size by more than 10,000-fold? Our new paper in @NatureCellBio reveals a simple scaling law and the physics behind it: chromosome crowding! 🧵 nature.com/articles/s41556-0…

I captured this video in my lab to show the power of medicines called T-cell engagers. Left: T cells move in and out of a cancer tumoroid, largely ignoring it. Right: Add a T-cell engager, and the T cells attack. Once they recognize their targets, they tear through the tumor.

New analysis reveals that development is not a mere readout of a genetic program, but rather a dynamic process in which communities of cells build themselves, and the very landscape they navigate, by mutual negotiation and interaction, into an organism. quantamagazine.org/how-does-…

I had fun chatting with Exa for their inclusion on the 3b1b talent page. It got me thinking about how a lot of the goals for better search end up aligning with goals of better credit assignment/attribution.
We sat down with ⁨@3blue1brown to discuss our research vision of "Attention over all the world's information." Plus why knowledge should not live in model weights, the compression trick behind cheaper retrieval, and why we hire through work trials. 1:20 – What is “attention over everything”? 4:46 – A knowledge graph of the whole web 11:32 – How do you evaluate search for AI agents? 15:13 – Why not put everything in the weights? 22:55 – Why Exa hires through work trials 25:15 – The compression trick behind cheaper retrieval 27:40 – Dealing with misinformation

Applications are now open for two new Anthropic Fellowships. STEM Fellows (science and engineering) and Conceptual Reasoning Fellows (philosophy, cognitive science, economics, policy, and law) will spend four months at Anthropic from January 2027, working to help Claude reason well about some of the hardest problems in those fields. For more information, see the descriptions below. The application deadline is October 28. Conceptual Reasoning Fellows: job-boards.greenhouse.io/ant… STEM Fellows: job-boards.greenhouse.io/ant…

1/5 Telomerase has long been linked to chromosome maintenance in eukaryotes. Now, we show that telomerase-like activity is also present in bacteria, shedding new light on its ancient origins. Excited to share that our work on DRT10 is now out in @Nature! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
