Couldn't agree more. Transparency, independent verification and a meaningful sample size should be the bare minimum
I'd add a 4th: Some evidence that the person selling the tips actually bet on them too.
A little skin in the game goes a long way.
Before subscribing to any tipping service, demand three things:
1. A complete history of every advised bet in a spreadsheet.
2. Independent proofing to a reputable betting monitor.
3. A large enough sample of bets to to draw a significant conclusion.
If they can't show all three, probably best to move on.
Which smaller UK bookmakers are you currently betting with?
Away from the usual big names, are there any lesser known firms offering decent odds, taking bets and treating punters fairly?

For profitable bettors, finding value is only half the battle. Getting your bets accepted is another.
But beyond the big names, there are plenty of smaller UK bookmakers worth knowing about.

Comments to this thread an interesting reflection on the lack of trust so many bettors have with bookmakers.
Winning is just one part of punting these days, getting actually paid is another.

Good to see Oddschecker returning to free access
Premium tipster offerings were never up to much - some strange decisions there (remember The Betting Professor?)
For a site already earning revenue from bookmakers to list - free access makes a lot more sense
Most bettors know the big bookmakers.
But what about the smaller names flying under the radar?
Our new SBC guide looks beyond bet365 & the rest to uncover lesser known UK bookmakers, what they offer and whether they're worth your attention

Peter Bedford in ConservativeHome:
“The Gambling Commission is out of control and failing in its primary purpose. It is strangling the licenced industry and sending gambling underground. It is time for major regulatory reform.”

The UK's lesser known bookmakers offer more opportunities than many profitable bettors realise.
Different odds, markets and betting limits can all provide an edge, while understanding the connections between firms helps identify where the best opportunities might lie.
At SBC, we bet ourselves and know that losing access to the big bookmakers needn't end your profitable betting journey.
It might just be the end of the beginning.
Our new report explores where to turn next - available now to SBC members.

In other breaking news - water is wet, bears defecate in the woods and man has landed on the moon.
As on the ball as ever this lot...
The Gambling Commission's own research has identified friction caused by bookmaker requests for personal data as one of the primary factors pushing punters towards the black market
🔗 racingpost.com/news/industry…
I think this is a dangerous conclusion to draw from relatively limited experience of the black market
I understand the appeal. Worse odds, quicker restrictions, deposit limits, endless document requests and affordability checks are pushing more punters towards alternatives
But there are serious risks
The biggest is getting paid, especially if you're a consistent winner or taking sharp prices (but also sometimes even if you are not)
I've seen withdrawals delayed, accounts locked, absurd requests for information and bookmakers simply stop responding
A few successful smaller withdrawals tell you little about what happens when you win regularly or win big
And when things go wrong, who do you turn to?
No meaningful independent dispute resolution, regulatory protection (although very debatable how much if anything this is worth) or straightforward legal recourse.
The regulated market is becoming less attractive, but the black market can leave you completely exposed.
The irony is that regulation designed to protect punters is increasingly driving them towards a market where those protections don't exist.
But no-one is listening or interested in this point. With so many vested interests, political point-scoring and regulators seemingly asleep at the wheel, nobody appears particularly interested in addressing the contradiction.
People call it the “black market”.
I’ve used regulated bookmakers and had winnings withheld.
I’ve used several crypto bookmakers and been paid out without an issue.
So perhaps the so called “black market” deserves a closer look?
I’ll continue using a range of firms, but so far I’ve had nothing but positive experiences.
Admittedly, I’m yet to test a withdrawal above £5,000, so time will tell.

This is the real cost of the RBD tax hike for punters. So many of these creeping in - on markets with stable margins for 10+ years - since announced. Those who recommended it will say it hasn’t even officially come in yet. This is where theorists’ need some practical knowledge.

Andrew Black (Betfair co-founder)
'(Gambling Commission board has) 10 people all of whom look down their noses at gambling and think it is an unhealthy activity, as far as I can see... there is not a single one of them that has got any history of gambling.'
More on the broken regulation system and the flaws with the notion that past winnings cant be used as evidence you can afford to bet.
Should operators ignore this = £5m fine as Rank discovered to their cost.
Exchanges particularly vulnerable to this mad rule
Plenty to criticise Betfair for - yet they're also operating within a broken system
Winnings made betting can't be used as evidence you can afford to bet, while losing triggers questions about whether you should bet (and what the strategy is you are using!)
Quite the regulatory Catch 22
Insane interaction with Betfair Exchange this weekend.
Been on a bad run recently, down ~£12k over the last three months.
I get an email saying my account has been severely restricted until I call them for an RG check.
I get through to someone who asks whether I'm comfortable with the losses.
I say yes.
She asks me to explain what happened.
I say bad variance, pointing out that the account is still up £7k this year, even after the recent losses.
She asks whether I have a betting strategy.
I say bet when I think the line is wrong.
She tells me that unless I can explain my strategy better than that, she'll have to impose a £1,500 monthly deposit limit.
I ask why I need to explain my strategy when I've been profitable this year and over the lifetime of the account.
She says there's nothing she can do. Limits imposed.
Betfair Exchange is basically the last place in the UK where people can still try and win. Now, seemingly, even that's becoming impossible.
I'm in a WhatsApp group with around 10 serious/sharp bettors, and probably two can still bet freely on Betfair.
Regulation feels broken
