Why the change? Our work does not only include snakebite but we also have projects, e.g. focussing on the implementation of point-of-care ultrasound (#POCUS) to improve clinical care. The new name reflects this broader focus. 🌍

1/4 🐍 The European viper (Vipera berus) inhabits the largest geographical region of any snake globally. However, in many countries, little is known about where and when bites occur and their clinical impact. #snakebite #ISBAD
3/4 📊 The findings were presented last week at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Herpetologie und Terrarienkunde (@DGHTeV) meeting in Bonn and the Conference on Tropical Medicine and Global Health #CTM24 in Düsseldorf (@Tropmed_DTG).

We're delighted to kick off #CTM24 with a workshop on ‘Venomous animals, toxins and climate - are they connected?’ together with the legendary toxinologist Prof Dr Mebs. The workshop led to interesting discussions on this important topic. Thanks to everyone who participated!
#CTM24 has started with workshops of the young @Tropmed_DTG on topics such as ‘venomous animals and climate change’ (🙏 @SBE_Research ) as well as #FGM (🙏AG FIDE) and #migrationmedicine
1/5 🐍 On #InternationalSnakebiteAwarenessDay 2024, let’s shed light on an often-overlooked issue: #snakebite envenoming in pregnant women. While snakebite is already a neglected disease, this vulnerable group receives even less attention. #ISBAD2024
4/5 🏥 Physicians face tremendous challenges when treating pregnant women with snakebites. The absence of clear guidelines and case studies to learn from leaves them without the information they need to provide the best care. This gap in research is putting lives at risk.
5/5 📚 That’s why we need more publications of detailed #snakebite cases in pregnant women! By documenting and sharing these cases, we can fill in the blanks and create better treatment guidelines for future patients.
